Looking for some good Concert DVDs
 

I come here for this, because I know you guys can help me. I recently bought 3 Dog Night and Yanni: Live at the Acropolis (which I have the CD of and wanted to finally SEE it). . I also have Cyndi Lauper and Pat Benatar being shipped to me now. Anyway here goes. One thing I really like about music and performances is when musicians get a chance to go solo and really show their skills. I guess this happens in some Jazz and Rock concerts. It happened in the Yanni Concert where his drummer did a bangin solo. It was awesome! In fact that track wasn't on the CD so I got to hear something new which is cool.

So can you guys reccomend specific Concert DVDs (Region 1 or 0 Rock, Jazz, Pop, or whatever) where there are some Jammin solos? I'd also like to ask what do you reccomend as a MUST SEE Opera/Rock Opera/ performance on DVD?

Eagles: Hell Freezes Over (Must have if you have DTS, still awesome otherwise)

One of my fav concert DVDs is "Eagles: Hell Freezes Over" and it shows off ones system. But there are no real jammin' solos. I also liked Santana's "Supernatural" DVD which has music videos mixed in with concert footage.

Fleetwood Mac, the Dance (which appears to be missing right now)


All of these are excellent if you like the artist.

you mean "real" solo, powerhouse stuff. thats ez. here are a few of my favorites:

• "year of the horse" from neil young and crazy horse. directed by jim jarmusch (this is hot stuff)
• joe satriani "live in san francisco".....you wanted solo's, right?
• G3 live in concert (this will peel the paint off yer walls) with satriani, eric johnson and the "god", steve vai
• stevie ray vaughn.."live from austin, tx.".....yer jaw will drop to the floor...
• "the last waltz".....a great dvd period..get it

of course, depends on your taste. Gut's killer DVD's

.....how could i for get?????? sorry...need to add: JEFF BUCKLEY, live in chicago. this kid rocked...was a poet like his father. he died way too young. i was lucky to have seen him twice before he passed away. a little eerie....saw him AND stevie ray twice each..just before they died.

Out of all your reccomendations I will probably get the Eagles (my Dad loves em), I have fleetwood mac in concert already. And your reccomendations Gutwrencherdvds, I listened to samples of all of them, and I really don't dig that kind of sound. The solos I'm talkin about is when the band lets each musician break down on their instrument. Like jammin Sax, Drums, Violin, congo drum, and piano solos. If anybody has seen Yanni Live at the Acropolis they will know what I am talking about. I'd like to see another awesome drum solo.

Can anybody reccomend concerts to someone who likes 80's pop, rock, new age, Opera, Broadway musicals, and 60's, 70's rock-n-roll?

sorry there mate. you are seeking more generic types of music, as in popular. as for a few things i reccomended, what is it when joe s plays a guitar solo for 6min, the stu plays bass for 5min...so on and so on. is that not what you wanted? just a different style, ok. the eagles are great, but better as a whole than soloing on stage. plus...you wanted too "see" on dvd, not just listen to a few worthless samples. so then, i shall try again. try, if there is anything on dvd, Pat Matheny, Weather Report, Happy The Man, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Miles Davis w/ John Scofield or Mike Stern...on and on. Too bad my 16 year "free form" radio show show got kicked off the air back in 1993. i was "removed" for playing a 27 minute live version of "stinkfoot", from ZAPPA. problem was..it was 7am...rush hour. guess i caused some accidents.

Here's another one I just thought of...Led Zeppelin "The Song Remains the Same". From what I remember of the movie it had one helluva John Bonham drum solo.

U2: Elevation Tour Live from Boston...By far the best concert video I've seen in any format! I was fortunate enough to see them twice on that tour, and the DVD amazingly captured what it was like to be there!!! A must have!

Where the hell is the DVD of Jonny Langs performance that they showed on HBO. It was all the stuff from his first album and I believe it was at Disneyworld or something...

Also, why no Zappa on film? I saw two of his concerts in Houston and they were fantastic. I hope we get something eventually...

Saw U2 in Chicago from 4th row on this tour, it was great (even at $140 per ticket)! I've been considering picking this up and, based on this recommendation, I may have to do just that.

I'll vote for Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense". Both the film and the DVD are great!

Come on, how could y'all have forgotten Bela Fleck & The Flecktones: Live At The Quick. Take the greatest banjo player ever, along with the greatest living bass player, one of the greatest sax players, the only synth-axe-drumitar player, throw in a ton of special guest musicians, and you've got yourself a concert.

Seriously, if you haven't heard the Flecktones, you have to check them out. The DVD is great.. if you like it, check out their 2-disc album Live Art.

I only have a few concert/music DVDs, but I have to highly recommend Madonna: Drowned World Tour. Great DTS track (even though they left the DTS logo off the package!).

Amnesty International's Paris concert from 2000

Alanis Morisette - I'm not a fan, but she's good here
Radiohead - who do a few songs including an insane version of Paranoid Android
and a lot more - it's almost 3 hours long

I'm afriad I can't let this thread go on without mentioning the Roger Waters DVD.

I gotta recommened the Grateful Dead DVDs, you really get a feeling for the band's talent.

The New years' DVD is my favorite, with All Downhill from Here by 2nd.
