Interpol anyone?

Anyone else heard/been listening to Interpol? I bought their debut CD last week and I think I've listened to it about 50 times. It's one of the best of the year. They're a NYC based band with strong Joy Division influences. Throw in some Smiths, Radiohead, Coldplay, U2, a great singer and some brilliant songs. I've been recommending it to friends since my first listen and if you haven't heard it yet, consider yourself recommended.

For those of you who like to hear downloads first, look for songs titled "NYC" and "PDA" and "Obstacle 1".

I've been curious about these guys but then I read a review of a concert of theirs either in the Times or the Voice (I forget which). The review basically said that they were riding on the wave of popularity of groups like The Strokes and White Stripes and that Interpol were only a knock off of Joy Division.

So thanks for the more than positive heads up as I've heard no one contest this yet.

BTW - if you're a Joy Division/New Order fan check out the film 24 Hour Party People about Factory Records. One of the better films I've seen in a theater this year.

I really like this record. I saw the band live in March supporting Ash in NYC. I thought they were nothing special. But their album is really great. I'm a huge Joy Division fan, but the comparisions are not complete. The singer's voice is similar to Ian Curtis' , but the music has a different feel. The album is quite addictive. I'd at least check it out. I read the mediocre review in the Times and was somewhat disappointed, although they my not have a great live show just yet.

I've heard a handful of songs and I'll definitely be picking this one up.

Especially since it's priced lower than usual.

Saw it for $9.99 at a major retail place.

I agree with everyone's opinion on this is a band that people should check out esp. if you are in to Joy Division. www.pitchforkmedia.com had a good review of their CD. I've really gotten into this and the new Sonic Youth CD "Murray Street" lately.

I am enjoying this it's not as in yer face as the white stripes, the vines etc, more laid back and reminds me somewhat of Talking Heads. At least the lead singer's voice is kind of like david byrnes.

I'd recommend you give it a listen.

They are on my list of cds "to purchase." I've heard three songs...Roland, Song Seven, and PDA and I like all of them (especially Roland).

I'm a big fan of Interpol. People say that they're a knock off of Joy Division but I think that's just a little too simple. Interpol is its own band. It's very vogue to blast bands these days for sounding like their influences but really, it's rock and roll people. There's nothing new under the sun.

Oh, and I'm also excited about the new Donnas album coming next week and the new Apples in Stereo the week after.

I played the 2 songs that the promo company ranked best on the Apples in Stereo cd for my radio show, and they were both horrible. But I'm not big on The Apples in Stereo, so you might like it. The only song I really have an affinity for is "Strawberryfire," and that song is INCREDIBLE if you haven't heard it.
