Today's CDs (8/26)
Th Faith Healers -- Imaginary Friend
Palace -- Arise Therefore
Wedding Present -- BBC Sessions
Spoon -- Kill the Moonlight
Enon -- High Society
The Fall -- Hip Priest and Kamarads
Superdrag -- Last Call for Vitriol
So, I was asked by an editor that I frequently write for to write a piece criticizing the new Spoon album, since he knew that I didn't like it. Another writer was going to write a positive piece and they would run simultaneously. I agreed and worked on it this weekend, coming up with a nice clever lede and everything. Then a funny thing happened -- the record grew on me. And now I actually enjoy it. It's not a great album, but I can't write a negative piece on it any longer. Sucks, because I was looking forward to it.
Also, I'm not a power-pop fan by any means, but the new Superdrag album is excellent. Maybe it's just John's voice that I dig, but I've always had a soft spot in my heart for them. I dunno, but this record is feeling very right to me today.

I still don't think it's nearly as good as "A Series of Sneaks" or even "Girls Can Tell," but it's not awful. I need to stop being so quick to form opinions regarding new albums.

I forgot to mention earlier just how amazing the Doug Martsch solo record is, Now You Know. This will be very, very high on my year-end list. Straight country-blues. It's gorgeous. Much better than any Built to Spill record since Perfect From Now On.

A rather eclectic mix for me this week:
Porcupine Tree: Recordings
Paul Gilbert: Burning Organ
Henry Rollins: Live at the Westbeth Theater(spoken-word)
Dream Theater: Six Degrees...
Cult: Electric
