Help with MP3 ripping software :o(

Hi,

I recently bought a portable CD player that can play CDs with MP3 files on them (Sony ZS-X3CP). I downloaded both CDEX and CDGrabber (free, recommended in forums on groups.google.com) and created a test CDR using MP3 files from CDGRabber. However, the Sony player I have doesn't recognize the files as MP3s. When I burn a test CDR using MP3s made with CDEX the Sony player plays them all fine. *However* I am having trouble with CDEX regarding speed and the fact that it cannot finish ripping all the tracks on a CD without freezing up and requiring a Win2K restart to clear things up. I wish I could get my Sony player to play the CDGrabber files as that software is excellent :(
Can anyone recommend some other ripping software - I would be willing to purchase a good app at this point. (Oh, I have tried the free version of MusicMatch Jukebox but it is painfully slow - is the commercial version faster?) Thanks.

Even though this is music related, it might get a better response in the computer forum.

I know that in past versions (not sure about current ones), that MusicMatch Jukebox does rip slowly unless you register it / buy it.

Anyway, I have found AudioGrabber using Lame to be very good and fast.

Hey, thanks for everyone's two cents. I have downloaded audiograbber and hopefully that will work better for me. I will give Exact Audio Copy another go too. Hopefully one of these will do what I need. Cheers!

You might make sure that Digital Audio Extraction is turned on with Musicmatch Jukebox. It'll rip painfully slow if DAE isn't enabled.

Personally, I like MM Jukebox, it still uses the Fraunhoeffer codec, which is widely regarded as one of the best (if not THE best) codecs. It is the only free encoder to do so, because using the Fraunhoeffer codec costs $$$$.

Hmm, well, I got Exact Audio Copy to work OK now that I figured out how to make it use Lame (I'm not a newbie to computers, just the MP3 thang). But I will probably try your suggestions with MMJ since I did really like that app when I had used it in the past and if I can get past that slow ripping issue I will be golden... at the very least I will have 'choices' :)

Thanks.
