Recommendations for turntablists?
Hey everyone, I love listening to d.j.s making their own tracks up, as opposed to taking a well known song and changing the beat. What djs do this? It doesn't have to be just hip hop/rap styles, but even melodic music (not techno) like Moby or something. Any suggestions?

I'm not sure what your talking about. Do you mean producers as in people who create their own music? Or djs who play their (the producers) music and make it their own, without using well known tracks?
And in terms of "djs making their own tracks, as opposed to taking a well known song and changing the beat". That is what techno is all about. Doing what has not been done a thousand times over. So excluding the techno genre would be a mistake if your looking for something new and original. I've been spinning house and techno for 7 years now. In my opinion if you want to listen to some good music check out Plastikman (Consumed, Concept). Very laidback techno, some of the finest in the world. Moby could only wish he was Richie Hawtin (Plastikman). / modiman. |
I mean techno, but scratching instead of beats.

Well in terms of scratching I saw this guy called TOP SPEED. He was freaking awesome. I think he's based out of Indianapolis. Look him up.

Gotcha, thanks modiman. Plastikman was not what I was looking for.

Check out Cut Chemist as well --- mixes soul, hip-hop, etc. Very good!!!!
He's also a member of Jurassic 5. |
Yeah he's kind of an aquired taste. Kinda like beer. But for anyone who is into techno he's the man. I think his newest album "CE: closer to the edit" is very slick.
