I believe that with the tragic passing of John Entwistle, there is only one thing that can be done to ease the hearts and minds of Rock and Roll fans everywhere...

It makes perfect sense if you think about it. The Who have lost a drummer and a bassist, the remaining Beatles just happen to be the drummer and the bassist! This is too much synchronicity to be simply a coincidence.

While John Lennon, Keith Moon, George Harrison, and John Entwistle are jamming on a higher plane, those of us that are left here on this rock should be able to partake of the greatest rock and roll supergroup ever created...

I know that Paul McCartney isn't the same stylist that John Entwistle was, and let's all be honest... Ringo is no Keith Moon, but then again, Roger Daltrey is no John Lennon either.

Reagardless, I urge the four remaining members of these 2 superbands to unite for the only cause that's ever really mattered...

Money.

No, seriously, Think of all the great music that would come of this. I am all for a hybrid Who/Beatles concert, with intermingling of the songs and the styles of these rock legends.

Hah... what a great idea... The problem is though that Ringo's son is the current drummer for The Who, and fortunately for The Who (unfortunately for Ringo), he is a MUCH better drummer than Ringo ever was. In fact, I don't even think Ringo would be capable of playing most of The Who's material. That lucky kid of his grew up taking lessons from "Uncle Keith" and is stylistically the most similar drummer to Keith Moon that I've ever seen. It's like he was bred to play drums for The Who. But hmm... it does sound like fun. Maybe Ringo could play just on The Beatles tunes? hehe... look at me... actually taking this seriously. :rolleyes:

it probably wouldn't work because the styles are too diferrent. something similiar almost happened in the 60's when 2 members from led zep and 2 from the who almost formed a band.

i think that may have been before led zep actually was formed.

it's just a fun idea... paul and ringo don't come close on their respective instruments to john an keith. The Who had the best rhythm section in the history of rock and roll IMHO.

Well, I agree with Evolution on that one. The Who in their prime (especially live) could blow just 'bout any band off the stage. One of the most perfect rhythm sections ever.

I would now like to take this opportunity to defend Ringo's drumming. *crickets chirping*

No, seriously! Ringo's so damn underrated it ain't even funny. No, he wasn't a Moon or a Bonham, but he was still a great drummer. Go back and listen to some Beatles (esp. Rubber Soul and Sgt. Pepper) and maybe you'll pick up on some of the subtleties and accents he provides for those songs. Not to mention that his drumming was rock solid.

And where's the love for McCartney's bass playing? Listen to "Rain", he's all over the place on that one (as is Ringo). Sure, you never heard him doing a bass solo (ala "My Generation" or "Dreaming From the Waist"), but the Beatles were never really about that. What he did come up with perfectly complimented the material, and that's all I can really ask for. I dunno, it just seems disconcerting that people are so ready to dismiss the Beatles' musical ability. No, they were never geniuses, but they were more than capable with their instruments, IMHO.

I never doubted that the Beatles were great musicians. They were all definitely more than capable with their respective instruments (George being the best of the bunch I think). They played well together as a group... but it's obvious that the Beatles' legacy is in their songwriting, their revolutionary production (Thanks to Sir George), and their existence as a cultural phenomenon. People love the Beatles for the music they gave us, not how technically impressive the instrumental performances were. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'd rather be Paul McCartney than Steve Vai any day of the week. But you look at John Entwistle and Keith Moon and they really were the best of both worlds... same with Zep's rhythm section. VERY technically proficient musicians who also had a major part in shaping some of the most memorable rock music ever created. I don't mean to take anything away from the Beatles... they are my favorite band and biggest musical influence, but you'd be kidding yourself if you thought Paul and Ringo could play through The Who and Led Zeppelin's catalogs. And I'd say with fair confidence that the rhythm section from either of those 2 bands could play any Beatles tune fairly easily.

All good points, and I don't think the Beatles could play through Who's or Zep's catalog. Yeah, the rhythm section of those two bands could play any Beatles tune, but I honestly don't think they could quite capture the spirit of it. I believe they would bog the songs down with unnecessary flashes of musicianship, so to speak. For example, look at the Who's versions of the Stones' "Under My Thumb" and "The Last Time". They seem overdone and very much pale in comparison to the originals. As much as I love the Who, I don't think they could quite pull off something like "Penny Lane" or "I am the Walrus". Sure, they could probably plow through them musically, but it would (probably) sound wrong. In any case, the Who sounds best with their own material (excepting the odd cover, "Young Man's Blues" and "Shakin' all Over"), and the Beatles sound best with theirs (again excepting the odd cover, like "Money" and "Long Tall Sally").

And I just wanna restate that the Who's rhythm section is the biggest and baddest on the block. Oh, to have seen the Who in the 60's and 70's (unlike '90 and '96, which is when I got to see them).
