The critics and many fans pounced upon such ambitions, tearing them apart like hungry frenzied animals. Remarks by fans that stating that the album was 'unexpected' and 'stupid' or 'silly' embarrassed Gene, who now reflects upon the album as done by a man who was 'completely lost.' Such attempts to move outside of his known field of songs written about sex and power had been met with laughter and insults, leaving Gene to scurry back to what he 'did best' on Dynasty & Unmasked. With Music from the Elder, Gene would once again bring forth such lofty ideals only to see them smashed by the critics and fans. After such a second downward attempt, Gene learned his lesson and never again tried to write outside of his 'established' field."

I can see this when looking at songs on there like Mr. Make Believe, Burning Up With Fever, and See You Tonite. But then again, I liked it because there was a different sound from the norm.

# 1 Gene's album was great. It was different, which is why your average stoned dumb-ass KISS fan didn't like it...same with The Elder.

#2 Gene's songs of Dynasty, and especially Unmasked harldy showed him getting back to his earlier sound. Songs like She's so European, You're all that I wantk, Naked City and X-ray eyes could have been right off his solo album. So your quote IMO is full of it.

#3 All the solo albums have merit, Peter's being the least.

#4 Critics don't know ****. If we listened to critics, all I would be listening to is Bonnie freakin Raitt.

It did allow Gene to encompass his yearning to do Beatle-like material, while also doing material that was not all sex and power oriented as many of his earlier Kiss tracks had been. He even included a heart-felt rendition ofthe disney classic, 'When You wish Upon a Star.' It was a chance to show a romantic and adventurous side of his musical nature."

This, from a man in Kabuki make-up, who waves a nine-inch tongue around, spits fire, vomits blood, wears giant spikes and seven-inch platforms.

Not trying to take digs at the guy, but come on. It's a cartoony image, and it's kind of hard to be taken seriously the way he wants to be taken, when you're projecting that image.

He was in his "demon" persona on the album cover.
