There are, but they're/we're all stuck in the late 50's/early 60's...it's hard to top that era.

Saw him at Ravinia years ago and he was great as usual.

I love Ravinia...great place to see or "hear" a show...I practically lived there in June and July for all the Jazz shows.

Hey! No thread crapping!

This Wednesday, they're doing a John Coltrane/Miles Davis tribute.

Ravinia rocks. Great place for a (cheap) date.

Sorry
Back on topic: I missed my chance to see the coltrane/miles tribute in DC a few months ago...I heard it was fantastic. I think Herbie Hancock and Roy Hargrove were involved. See it if you can.

Again, ChiTownAbs, I just wanna state how friggin' jealous I am. But, I can say I this...

My dad took me to see Miles Davis in 1990. He wasn't in the greatest health, but who cares? I consider myself extremely fortunate to have gotten a chance to see him. Now if only I could've seen Coltrane or Bill Evans or....

I saw Miles in 89' in Paris, he had his Amandla band with him (Marcus Miller, etc) and it completely changed my life.

I have seen so many memorable shows at Ravinia...just a few.

Sonny Rollins
Mel Torme
Oscar Peterson
Herbie Hancock with Craig Handy and Dave Holland(AMAZING SHOW!)
Pat Metheny
Mingus Dynasty
Eddie Palmeri
Charlie Haden and Red Mitchell
Roy Hargorve
Bela Fleck
Dave Young
Dave Benoit
Terrance Blanchard

There are many, many more I am forgetting.

And yes Ravinia is such a lovely place to go. My girlfriend and I would make a really nice picinic lunch and dinner and get there at like 2:00 and stake out a great spot and spread out. Bring our gloves and have a catch with the baseball in the back of the lawn...bring our chess set and play a couple of games. Evening would roll around and the cool breeze would come off the lake and everyone has their candle lighting up their area and the music would start. We would just lay back and look up at the night sky, relax and listen to the great tunes....man I miss that.

You know, I wasn't really planning on the Davis/Coltrane tribute, but you guys are GOOD sellers ... I might go after all.

Might be the best ten dollars I've spent.
