Anybody trade Dave Matthews Band?

I've been downloading shows from this past 2002 Spring Dave Matthews Band tour, but just got around to burning them today. Some of these recordings are incredible! (Quality-wise, although there wasn't a bad show setlist-wise among the first 33 shows of 2002.)

The two I've noticed so far that really stand out are
 • April 07, 2002 - Jones (listening to this right now.. never heard a better audience recording in my life)
 • April 20, 2002 - Brown

So anybody else in the trading community? I've got about half of the shows completely finished, and about 15 more downloading right now. Anybody want to set up some trades? (I'm especially looking for Coluzzi's May 24 because I was there. I've got the Fulton May 24 but I've heard Coluzzi's is better.)

I'm just getting started in the trading community. I have my first two shows although I got them from a friend who got them from another friend and I have no idea if they were MP3's or not so I don't wanna trade them and have someone get mad although they sound great. If only we had broadband in our area so I could download SHN's. If you don't have it, you should check out the Giants stadium show from last year. Pretty good recording and a great show. I'm listening to that one right now. Can't wait to get ahold of 5/28 and 29 at MSG.

In a now-deleted request I asked for some proof to show that, in this particular case, the taping/trading was within Forum Guidelines to which Gdrlv replied:

"Dave Matthews Band allows audiotaping at almost every live performance. We feel that each show is unique and want to offer our fans the opportunity to recreate the live experience through the audio reproduction of our shows. At all taping authorized performances, tapers can tape from any ticketed seating location in the venue. Also, for many of these performances tapers are able to purchase tickets for a specially designated taper section, normally located immediately behind the soundboard. No soundboard or power feeds are provided.

Taping is limited to audio-only, using only microphones. Wireless receivers are strictly prohibited. We sincerely appreciate all of our fans, so we ask that you please be considerate of those around you by not obstructing anyone else's view of the performance.

When taper tickets are available for a particular show, they are released concurrently with general seating tickets. To obtain designated taper tickets, contact the venue's box office.

All recordings must be used for personal use or trading only. Selling or commercializing any recording is illegal and will jeopardize taping privileges for everyone. Please read our Bootleg Statement for more information.

In addition to helping fans recreate the live experience, we hope tape trading will foster greater interaction within the fan community. Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized."
By the way, for anyone out there who wants to know which bands allow taping at their shows and allow tape trading, check out FurthurNet. They refuse to post any illegal shows and actually stopped circulating Phish recordings when a few shows that the band had released as live albums appearred.
FYI I've limited the quote to the on-topic information and emailed my clarification of some tangential points from the original post omitted here in order to help keep the thread more about the taping and less about "moderation"....

Thanks again to Gdrlv for that very useful clarification.

.... for anyone else starting a similar thread, in order to avoid potential misunderstandings, would you please include in your opening post clear evidence that taping/trading has been authorised by those in a position to grant such permission. A link to FurthurNet may be all that is needed. (Any posts that don't include suitable evidence are liable to temporary/permanent closure).

The understanding and co-operation of all is much appreciated.

This is a very good litmus test for determining if a band allows taping for the reason you state.

Dave Matthews has even said that if not for taping they would not be where they are today. They would go do a show somewhere they had never been before, and people would know all the words to their songs. It seemed odd, since at the time they didn't even have a CD out.

I don't do trading since it's so easy to download shows these days. And when you get shns released by the taper you don't have to worry that you might be getting an audio copy that went through a couple of mp3 conversions. I even run a DMB FTP server, .

Whoa, hey. I thought this thread died without response, and I have been too busy with school to read DVDTalk as much as I would like to.

Didn't mean to cause a stir, but I did believe that most everybody knew DMB's stance on taping, and that they are probably the most famous contemporary band that is taped and traded.

AndyCapps, is your server one of the ones listed on antsmarching.org? I've been getting most of my shows from there, although I'm always looking for good servers. Any shows (especially from 2002) that you're looking for? I'd be happy to work with you to fill in any gaps we may have. You can email me at [email protected] as not to clutter up DVDTalk..

Dave Matthews Band "Busted Stuff" - reviews, discussion, and whatnot

i have a few questions regarding this album:

1) who produced it?

2) how much of an improvement (if at all) is it on the Lillywhite Sessions?

3) what's on the DVD in the enhanced version?

(i am admittedly too lazy to do the research for questions 1 and 3.. )

Busted Stuff was produced by the band themselves and Steve Harris, their long-time engineer. The band was felt that it was very important to do the work themselves for this album.. no guest producer, no guest musicians. I've heard a lot of the new album and all the songs have that familiar-yet-different feeling. You can tell the band was more relaxed and had more fun during the recording of this album--everything seems pretty laid back, and not overproduced.

You're in for some surprises if you know the Lillywhite versions.. certain songs have been completely reworked. Kit Kat Jam is completely an instrumental jam.. very very cool. My favorite of the reworked songs is Captain, which turned into a dirty, funky-porno song. There are two new songs, Where Are You Going and You Never Know. When they played You Never Know live for the first time on April 7, people were making comments like "DMB is back.. without Glen Ballard," and such. I'd go as far as to compare it to some of their epic songs, such as Dreaming Tree and #41.

The DVD for now is only confirmed to have a DD5.1 remix of Bartender, and a video for When The World Ends. They say that there will be unreleased live video and audio, but there are no specifics. The DVD will also "unlock" a special website, with more unreleased footage.

*bump*

would it be prudent to suggest that the title of this thread be changed to include the words "Busted Stuff" so that people know that this is the thread?

This sounds like an "everything Dave Matthews Band" thread, so I figure I'd post this here.

I went to see DMB tonight for the first time at the Nissan Pavilion in VA. Although I'm glad I went, I was pretty underwhelmed. I reeeaaaaally wanted to hear some of his old songs... I have Under The Table & Dreaming, Crash, and Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds @ Luther College, and love those three discs. It seemed like most songs were off his last two or three albums. The "popular" old ones I recognized were:

I Did It (he opened with this one)
One Sweet World
Dancing Nancies
The Christmas Song (I think)
Drive In Drive Out
Warehouse

And that's it. I couldn't believe it. Didn't do Crash Into Me (I wanted to hear this song so badly ), didn't do Tripping Billies, didn't do Ants Marching, didn't do Lover Lay Down, What Would You Say, Jimi Thing... after reflecting on it, he did do six of his more famous older songs, and if he did every older song plus the newer songs off the album he's trying to push, then the concert would be super long... but man. I was just disappointed. A friend I went with who has been to nineteen (!) DMB concerts was also somewhat disappointed.

I'm going to see them Friday and Saturday, and I'm even more excited after reading what you posted Static.

I've seen them 4 times and was hoping they would do mostly stuff of their past 2 albums, as I saw them 4 times between 1996-1999 and have heard all their older songs that I like live and want to hear the ones I haven't heard in concert before.

I guess I should've caught him in his earlier years. Oh well, I guess that's what the "Listener Supported" DVD is for.

Looking for a particular Dave Matthews Band poster.

Hi everyone. I'm looking for a particular DMB poster for a friend. They say it is a wall-sized poster entitled Live at Red Rocks. I haven't had any luck finding this myself and was hoping some DMB fans on this board could point me in the right direction.

Thanks.

i am a big DMB fan and here's my advice:

if your friend is a seriously "huge" DMB fan, then he will most likely already have all of the albums. the only thing i could imagine would be to go to the bands website: www.dmband.com and find a t-shirt or buy some concert tickets or something along those lines. otherwise, you'll probably end up getting him something he may already have!

Thanks for the reply.

He is a huge fan that has all the cds including all the live stuff. He just went to two concerts back to back when they came to his hometown.

I will hit up the website and see what I can find.

Do they have any box sets out?

No boxed sets. Maybe you could go to Antsmarching.org and download the live shows that he went to and burn them. I did that for my girlfriend (shes a big fan too) for the shows we went to.

You could buy them a plane ticket to NYC and get them tickets to the Central Park show on September 24.

Good suggestion mfrone.

Or, wait until November and get the Central Park show on CD & DVD.

..Or, wait until "early next year" and get the 3 DVD & 6 CD box set of the band's 2002 incredible 3 night run at the Gorge.
