Creed singer Scott Stapp in car accident

According to MTV and Creed.com, Stapp was hit by a car going 60mph, they have cancelled the remaing 20+ dates of the tour. No info as to what happened or how he is.

Not a big fan of him, but still not good news for him or fans.

Groucho 04-30-02 10:44 AM

Oh yeah? Well, I heard that Eddie Veddar got in a car accident four years ago!

Brrrr. Did it just get chilly in here?

:D

Jepthah 04-30-02 11:17 AM

Well, he should be able to lay hands on himself and get right back up and continue touring, right?

J/K...get well, Scott, hope you're OK. :)

My wife is severely bummed. This is the third time Stapp has cancelled a concert on her. I even camped out and got us tickets in the general admission floor area.

I'm wondering if I should hold on to the tickets and hope they'll trade them out when the tour resumes, or if I should trade them back for the cash and wait again when they decide to restart the tour.

It's becoming pretty dangerous to be a singer these days (aaliyah, left eye, layne staley.) It's like some weird kind of voodoo jinx.

Here's the article from MTVnews

Creed canceled the remaining 20 dates of their North American Weathered tour Monday due to a recent car accident involving singer Scott Stapp, a label spokesperson said. On April 19 around 1:40 p.m., Stapp was driving a Cadillac SUV on Interstate 4 in Florida and was struck from behind by a Ford SUV when traffic suddenly slowed, according to an Orlando Police Department accident report. The officer on the scene estimated there was $1,000 worth of damage done to Stapp's vehicle and wrote that there were "no injuries noted."

"The reason the tour has been canceled is Creed must err on the side of caution," the band's spokesperson said. "From the accident, Scott has been checking with specialists in regard to his neck and back to find out how much physical therapy might be needed to get him back to feeling good. Once we have an idea how much recovery is needed, that’s when we’ll know when we can go back on tour."

Creed were scheduled to play Fargo, North Dakota, Monday night, and dates were lined up through May 31 in Selma, Texas. Refunds for all canceled performances are available at point of purchase. Creed plan to resume touring this summer.
"The reason the tour has been canceled is Creed must err on the side of caution"?!?!? WTF? Who's running the show here, Scott's mommy?

And this crap about going to specialists for what amounts to a fender bender sounds like he's getting ready to put on the old neckbrace and hire one of those lawyers who advertise on late nite TV.

jerk.

El Scorcho 04-30-02 08:41 PM

This is not the kind of press release I want to see about Scott Stapp. :(

All I want is a "Scott Stapp hangs it up; pursues priesthood" press release :(

TenaciousD 04-30-02 10:03 PM

That sucks, I had floor tickets for the Creed show this Sat., May 4th. Now I guess I have some more money to buy dvd's with once I get my refund.

Stapp has a habit of cancelling concerts due to questionable injuries. It's hard for me to say, because I'm not a rock star, and I know I'd want to give the fans 110%, but I also know that I go to work and soldier on even when I probably shouldn't, and don't have to. People who basically look for an excuse to call in sick don't get a whole lot of respect in my book.

slymer 05-01-02 08:27 PM

I'm sure he's calling on Jesus as we speak.

"The officer on the scene estimated there was $1,000 worth of damage done to Stapp's vehicle..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't you cause $1000 worth of damage to a Cadillac SUV by simply scratching the paint?!:(

Rogue588 05-02-02 12:00 AM

I don't care much for Stapp's "Christ-like" ego. The band seems to take themselves WAY too seriously. [kinda like Freddie Prinze Jr.] Anyways, that's just my opinion. [and you know what they say about opinions]

Well, now that i'm done with my little Creed rant, here's something that tvguide online printed on today's daily newsletter.

"THIS SOUNDS FISHY: What's the real reason rock band Creed cancelled the second leg of its North American tour? Well, on Monday, the group released a statement saying frontman Scott Stapp sustained injuries in an April 19 car wreck in Orlando. However, police are now saying that "no injuries" were reported in the crash. In an interview with The Associated Press, Creed rep Steve Karas responds: "Scott is not up for doing this tour. [He] got banged up and he can't do the tour. That's the story." Hmmm... still sounds kinda fishy."

...and people still buy this stuff.

Dubya 05-02-02 08:50 AM

He's simply milking the "injury" for publicity.

Geofferson 05-02-02 10:09 AM

Why is the remainder of the tour cancelled if there were no injuries?

Direct from ZENtertainment by way of VH1...

"Despite a police report to the contrary, Creed lead singer Scott Stapp said he received serious injuries.

VH1 News had the word:

Although police reports made Creed singer Scott Stapp's recent car accident seem like a mere fender bender, the singer explained to MTV News on Thursday that the seriousness of his tour-delaying injuries weren't fully apparent until much later.

"The woman behind me, I guess, wasn't paying attention, and nailed me from behind going probably 50 or 60 miles per hour," he said, beginning to describe the April 19 incident that occurred on Interstate 4 near Orlando, Florida. "I flew forward and my body hit the steering wheel and my head hit the windshield and I kind of came back and hit my seat."

At first Stapp was unaware he was injured, he said, and was concerned about the wellbeing of the person who hit him, so he got out of his Cadillac SUV and walked to her vehicle. The 53-year-old woman and her two passengers were fine, and since her Ford SUV was no longer running, Stapp pushed the car to the side of the road and then returned to his vehicle, he said.

Because he had been heading to a video shoot for "One Last Breath," he immediately called his manager. When he got off the phone, he realized that wasn't as unscathed as he originally thought.

"I was kind of trembling. Even my lips were trembling, and I was disoriented," he said. "I had a concussion from the whiplash and from hitting the windshield."

Stapp pointed out that the police on the scene didn't note any injuries in their report because the singer refused to call an ambulance or go to the hospital.

"I did that against my manager's wishes and against the doctor's wishes," he admitted. "I have a personal doctor, and I had him come and see me at my house because it immediately becomes big news if I'm in the hospital. I was trying to avoid the press."

Since he had already committed to work on the video for "One Last Breath" with director Dave Meyers the next day, Stapp - who was beginning to feel the impact from the event - dragged himself to the shoot against his better judgement.

"I had medication to help me with the pain because my back and my spine and my neck and my head was killing me," he said. "And I had a very bad headache. So I shot the video. A doctor and a masseuse were on site. They actually had to use a body double a couple times for some things I just could not do."

Since Stapp's pain didn't get better, he set up appointments to have magnetic resonance imagery tests on his neck and back. The results were discouraging. Doctors discovered he had a bulging disc between two vertebrae in his neck and a smashed disc in his lower back. An adjacent missing disc from a congenital condition likely worsened the situation.

"I'm doing OK and I'm hanging in there," he said wearily. "But I'm having to go from one doctor's appointment to another to find where I go from here and to find out if I can resume touring soon. [I need to know] what effects are the demands I put on my body going to have on my neck and my spine condition."

Doctors have determined that Stapp's bulging and torn discs can heal with proper rest, physical therapy and exercise. But he's currently suffering frequent headaches and is in no position to tour.

"I'll probably know more within the next two or three days," he said. "Hopefully and prayerfully, within two or three months, maybe even sooner, we can resume the tour we were about to take. But under these circumstances we had to look at my long-term health."

Stapp apologized to his fans for the canceled shows and said he looks forward to returning to the road. But right now he's more concerned about how his condition will affect him.

"I'm scared to death," he said. "They've already told me I have an arthritic condition in my lower back. I just want to be 35 years old and be able to play ball with my son and play basketball, golf and do all the things I love to do. It scares me first and foremost that I may not be able to be the father I want to be." "

What a TROOPER!! -rolleyes-

Thunderball 05-04-02 12:11 PM

I wouldn't accept emergency treatment b/c I have a personal doctor. What a load of hooey.

If you are in pain, go get help. I don't see what's so hard about that

When a SUV is struck by another SUV going "50 or 60 miles per hour", damage is done. Extensive damage. And when you're hurt from whiplash, getting slammed on the steering wheel, and bumping your head on the windshield, you don't immediately get out of a car and push the offending SUV off the road.

Oh, wait...have to stop posting. I was unaware my fingers were broken! :D

Maybe his big ass jaw absorbed most of the impact? rotfl

Is it just me or does his jawline resemble Quagmire's from the recently cancelled tv show "Family Guy"? :hscratch:

I'm glad I was too cheap to buy tickets for the scheduled date in my area.
