Very unhappy with Aiwa

After the mini-disc fiasco my son had, I convinced him to buy a portable cd player that would play cd-r and cd-rw and he could use our burner to make his own cd's.

After having the unit for about 110 days it simply ceased to function. The warranty is 1 year parts and 90 days labor and the cost for repair is equal to what he paid for it.

After calling Aiwa they were basically unsympathetic.

Just a heads up to beware!

They usual make very nice products. I have a Aiwa home stereo that i'm happy with. I also have a Aiwa portable CD player that I hook up to my car stereo. That works great. I've had both for about two years.

I once had an Aiwa Shelf System about 5 years back that lasted me a decent amount of time. I don't put much faith into Aiwa because they are basically the cheaper version of Sony, and I don't even trust Sony anyway hehe.

I've had an Aiwa mp3 stereo for my car for about 2 years now. It's pretty reliable. The only thing that PISSES me off about it, is the CHEAP ASS remote that you have to attach to your steering wheel. It's NEVER worked!

I have an Aiwa bookshelf system. Had for a bit over a year and so far, no problems.

I've had a couple of bad experiences with Sony, though, and refuse to buy anything with their name on it. Had a Sony portable CD/duel cassette deck about ten years ago, both cassette decks stopped working about a week after the warranty expired. Fortunately, I wasn't using cassettes all that much by that time, so it wasn't a big loss. But I haven't trusted Sony since then.

I went through 2 faulty AIWA car CD players before opting for a more expensive (but much better) Pioneer model. The first AIWA player ate the first CD I put into it, and the second player skipped like crazy. No problems yet with the Pioneer one. AIWA lost me as a customer after that. YMMV, of course.
