Well, this may surprise a few of you, but, the actual loudest concert I've ever attended was the Dixie Chicks. I know they sing country music. But their mic's were turned up extrememly high and their lyrics resonated in my head for a few hours after the show. Dem girls is LOUD!

Generally, concerts don't tend to give me any problems. But every monster truck show I've ever been to was loud in short 3 minute bursts. Many the city in which I attend concerts have a decibel limit law. Sounds strange, but just maybe.....

Do you use some sort of special earplugs? I could've sworn that I once heard of a type made specifically for concerts, that was just supposed to lower the sound but not muffle it. Are these what you use?

As far as loud goes, I just saw Bad Religion and Less Than Jake a few weeks ago, and my hearing was pretty much gone for the next week. It was so lout it felt like someone was actually poking at my eardrums during the show.

Other groups that I have read that have notoriousely loud shows according to trade magazines and record books include:

Leftfield
Atari Teenage Riot

I remember seeing They Might Be Giants at the old F Street location of the 9:30 Club here in DC, and thank god I wasnt in the main room but small clubs and trumpets dont mix.
