Classic rock recommendations
I picked up ELO - Zoom the other day and was very impressed. It looks and sounds great. I also love the Roy Orbison - Black & White Night disc.
Can anyone recommend other music performances that compare to these in terms of production quality? BTW, has anyone seen the Supertramp disc yet? Opinions? Thanks, -AC |
I'm not familiar with the discs you mentioned, but Deep Purple's Total Abandon has a great performance by the band.

Criterion is supposed to be releasing Monterey Pop this year. Very good concert film.
|
The Moody Blues: Live at Royal Albert Hall (a recent concert with orchestra) was picked as one of the best-sounding music DVDs of last year and can be highly recommended. Like all of Image's new concert DVDs, it has DTS and DD 5.1 sound.
The Beach Boys' Endless Harmony is a documentary that includes stunning 5.1 remixes of some of their songs as extras. |
I enjoy audio (and/or) video quality on all of these:
Black Sabbath: Last Supper Deep Purple: Come Hell or High Water ELP: Live at Royal Albert Hall Peter Frampton: Live in Detroit Led Zeppelin: The Song Remains the Same Queen: We Will Rock You Scorpions: Moment of Glory Styx: Return to Paradise Yes: House of Yes |
The Who Live at the Royal Albert Hall
KISS Unplugged Eric Clapton Unplugged Bon Jovi Crush Tour |
Grateful Dead - Downhill From Here
King Crimson - Deja Vrooom Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense I dont know if they are "classic" or not, but these are some of my favorites. |
VH1 Story Tellers: Doors (DTS)
I can't rave about this DVD enough. The sound and Picture are awsome. GREAT GREAT DVD |

The remaining 3 band members and a slew of singers to cover Jim Morrison. Perry Ferrell, Pat Monahan, Ian Astbury, Travis Meeks, Scott Weiland and Scott Stapp.
I like VH-1 Storytellers becuase the artist gives insight and stories about the band. Oh yeah did I mention that it is in DTS |
ARgh, i hate the guy from creed.
|
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - High Grass Dogs, Live at the Fillmore is pretty awesome.
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense... I'll second that one. |
Moving to Music Talk...

The Roger Waters: In the Flesh disc is flat-out amazing. The show is about 3 hours, the video is great, the audio is great, and it has a good, but short, documentary.
I am the biggest Pink Floyd, and David Gilmour, fan out there, but this show really proves "which one is Pink." Even if you aren't familiar with Waters' solo material (which is very good BTW), you will be pleased to know that the show is 2/3 classic Floyd songs. I can't recommend it higher. |
