Off to See The D Tonight

All the ladies in the house say "yeah"
Come on, you mutha-*honk*, say a prayer

Cuz das Monkey's going to see The D.

I shall see first hand if they reign supreme, but I expect they do. Anyone going to be there? Anyone else seen them live?

I saw 'em about 3 years ago at the Roxy in L.A.

Pretty fun show, but the whole irony of The D was lost on the stupid drunk crowd who bought into the whole act and took them seriously.

Standing in front of me during the show was Tom Cruise - I could easily see over his head.

Come back and tell us if they are any good...

I am thinking about seeing them when they come here in concert in a month or so.

I'm seeing the D soon here in Salt Lake. I think it is April 27th or something. I can't remember, but I am excited to see what kind of show they put on hehe.

Well, OK then ...

I'll be honest and say that I was a tad skeptical. I love some of The D's music, but some of it doesn't do much for me, and their Live at Red Rocks album sounded really poor, so I was prepared to not be surprised if they weren't that great. I guess I expected maybe a 45-50 minute set with their hit songs and a few covers. After all, most of their songs are like 2 minutes long, so how much can they do?

Having returned from the concert, I can safely say that The D do in fact reign supreme. They were freakin' incredible. I won't say it's the best show I've ever seen, but I will say that it was about as good as you could ever hope from any concert.

Greasepaint opened, which was unexpected, and they were pretty good even if their sound tech should be fired since we couldn't make out a damn_word that they were saying. I remember a local paper describing them as a go-go Tom Waits style, and I guess that applies. I don't know what genre you'd classify them, but they're kind of like a mixture between the swing-style rockabilly with some funk thrown in. Now add to the fact that the whole show is a circus complete with man-on-stilts, dancing monkeys (yeah, I was happy), fire-breathing-man, balloon animals, and more clowns than you can shake a drumstick at. They pretty much rocked.

The only downpoint of the evening was the near 45 minute delay between Greasepaint and Tenacious D. That sucked. It took 15 minutes to set up the stage, and then nothing happened. Oh well. Once The D came out, I forgot about it. I guess I could go into what all happened, but I don't want to ruin anything for someone who may see them on this tour. I'm sure many things will be the same. The short: they played for nearly 2 hours, rocked the entire time, and put on one hell of a show. They played all their hits, at least dozen brand new songs, and had plenty of surprises. It wasn't just a concert; it was a production. They really knew how to work the crowd and had seemingly endless energy. I honestly can't imagine how it could have possibly kicked more ass than it did.

Hey das did they have a band with them or was it just Jack and Kyle?

I have seen them a couple of times...once in Chicago when they were first just starting out and again here in Boston after they were on HBO. It was just the two of them at both shows but they totally kicked a$$ and my sock were definitely rocked off

I hope to see them again soon but who has the time anymore...hey I think I'm working more than you now!!

I have tickets for later this month in Milwaukee. I'm glad to hear that the show is around two hours, since they only played for 45 minutes when I saw them open for Weezer last year. I wasn't sure what to expect this time. Luckily when I saw them last time, they rocked me just about into this week, so that was almost perfect timing.

at both posts.

It's still just the two of them
Spoiler:
except for the roadie who's part of the act

They're headliners now, which I'm sure accounts for why they did 45 minute shows before. How they can rock for so long is a mystery. I can only assume that it's due to KG's silver fingers. I definitely learned not to wear my good socks to another show, as I won't return with them. Talking to some people at work, everyone agreed. And all for $25.00. It's good to see JB not ditching the band for the Hollywood train. Hopefully that trend will continue.

I saw them open for Kid Rock about three weeks ago. I never really heard them before except for Wonder Boy. they played for about 40-45 mins. I really enjoyed the show. they played a cover of System Of A Down's "Chop Suey" which was funny as hell.
I would would like to see them again.
