I just looked at the list again and realized that Peter Gabriel had not been mentioned. I also think that James Taylor should also be mentioned. He's the epitome of soothing.

I didn't expect anyone to mention her. But yeah, great voice...quite a performance on Ambeon.

I didn't expect it either, since the thread title seems to limit the possibilities to male singers.

Scorpio - I can certainly agree with what you said about Frank. But this about being a vocalist, not just a showman. That's what I considered Frank. Did Frank have a good voice, most certainly, but great, hmm... not sure. Again, perhaps for his generation. But at least my interpretation of this thread... is about VOCAL ability. Now, put a cigarette and a drink in Frank's hand and he's unmatched!

Don't get me wrong, I like ole Frankie boy. Got a few of his CD's. A music collection is incomplete without him.

Gotta agree with Scorpio on James Taylor and Slymer on Jackson Browne.

Soundgarden-era Chris Cornell, also David Draiman. Of course Eddie Vedder. I always liked the sound of Gavin Rossdale's voice, too. Not necessarily a great singer, but his voice is great.

Scorpio -

Donald Fagen - nice pick. That made me think of another one. Gerry Rafferty - Stealer Wheels, and solo. Sang great songs like "Baker Street" and "Stuck in the Middle with You".

BuckeyeDawg -

Steely Dan is in my top five bands of all time. I never tire of hearing anything by them. And I love Rafferty on Baker Street. Thanks for mentioning him, actually. I've been meaning to pick that song up for some time. And now you mentioning him brings to my mind Boz Scaggs singing Lido Shuffle.

Scorpio - Boz Scaggs VERY under-appreciated in the music world. Come to think of it so were Cat Stevens and Al Stewart.

I love Baker Street - I do that song for Karaoke.
