What songs help you feel depressed?

You know how sometimes when you're depressed you just want to listen to songs to accompany and perhaps enhance/express the mood? What songs do you listen to?

Some of mine that I can think of off hand are:

Joydrop - Cocoon
Tori Amos - Winter
Tori Amos - Smells like Teen Spirit
Sarah McLachlan - Do what you have to do
Smashing Pumpkins - Mayonnaise
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt
Radiohead - Exit Music [For a Film]
Radiohead - Street Spirit [Fade out]
Self - So Low

That's some of the many I listen to. Anybody else?

Well top on the list is..

Didn't I? by Kim Richey
Gravity by Kim Richey
Let the Sun Fall Down by Kim Richey

Old Familar by Kathleen Wilhoite
Wish We Never Met by Kathleen Wilhoite

I Can't Take My Eyes Off You by Melanie Doane
Good Gifts by Melanie Doane

Breathing by Kate Bush

First Try by Tracy Chapman
Promise by Tracy Chapman

New Favorite by Alison Krauss
It Doesn't Matter - Alison Krauss

Those songs are usually pretty good at taking an already depressed mood and pushing it over the edge.

Some others...

Pretty much the whole Revelator album by Gillian Welch

Tupelo Honey by Cassandra Wilson (Not a sad song but the way she sings it gives it that feeling)

Sleep Walk by Santo & Johnny

Helpless by Neil Young
A Man Needs a Maid by Neil Young

Blue in Green by Miles Davis

Actually, listening to a depressing song doesn't make me feel more depressed if I LIKE that song. A Smith's song doesn't really make me feel sad since I love their music. If I want to be more depressed I would listen to music I hate (but that isn't EXACTLY what you were gettin' at!)

If you want music to be depressed by I suggest you buy some music by The Swans. I was feeling pretty low a while back, and made the mistake of listening to The Swans, and darn near felt suicidal afterwards. I had to listen to the Toy Dolls to prevent disaster.

"Requiem" off thr Requiem For A Dream soundtrack. The song reminds me of the movie which makes me pretty darn depressed. Still a great song though

Heh. The Swans can be kind of bleak, but they don't depress me.

Bright Eyes. Dude sounds like he's on the verge of crying as he's singing most of his songs.

Yeah, I saw him in concert, and he looked like he was depressed as hell. He would scream all the lyrics for some songs, but I think that was partly because people were talking at the bar in the back. But that was quite a performance.

Also like to include:

Big Star- Holocaust
Spiritualized- Broken Heart

In no order:

1. Undenied - Portishead
2. Blank Page - The Smashing Pumpkins
3. Street Spirit (fade out) - Radiohead
4. Ariel Ramirez - Richard Buckner
5. The Magdalen Laundries - Joni Mitchell
6. Shadow - Faye Wong
7. Frank Sinatra - Cake
8. Merman - Tori Amos
9. Cuts - Jann Arden
10. Angkor Watt Theme - In the Mood for Love Soundtrack

Best depressing albums:

1. Portishead - Portishead
2. The Smashing Pumpkins - Adore
3. Radiohead - OK Computer
4. In the Mood for Love Soundtrack
5. Richard Buckner - Since

And the most depressing song I've ever heard:

To Kill a Dead Man - Portishead

Hmmm...I've got to check this Bright Eyes dude out.

Anything written and performed by Roger Waters.

Through the fished-eyed lens of tear stained eyes
I can barely define the shape of this moment in time
And far from flying high in clear blue skies
I'm spiraling down to the hole in the ground where I hide

As much as I love the music, I get a bit depressed when I listen the Soundtrack to Blade Runner.

Asleep - The Smiths
Postwar Dream - Pink Floyd

And Add:

Mechanical Wonder - Ocean Colour Scene
