looking for new music--Suggest an artist!

Im getting tired with some of the same old thing. Please refer some bands you think i might like. Here are my interests:

80's REM, TheyMightBeGiants, DuranDuran, Bjork, Janes Addiction, Staind, mxpx (starting to get sick of whiney voices), RedHotChilliPeppers, Live, Ministry, Local H

im hoping to find something kind of loud and exciting but not shallow. Any ideas?

In two weeks when the new Trail of Dead album comes out, that'll be your ticket. Loud, exciting and definitely not shallow. No whiney voices either. Put it at the top of your list.

SnoopDogg 02-08-02 10:43 AM

Jimmy Eat World
System of a Down

Great! Keep em coming!

BTW, that list of my interests is not exhaustive. I picked some examples from various ends of the spectrum.

I'll second the Strokes (and prepare for the inevitable backlash) and also add The White Stripes.

Since you like Staind, check out the band Cold. They have 2 discs out right now. Their first one is self titled. It is very raw sounding. Their second disc, 13 Ways to Bleed on Stage is also very good. It is much more produced than their first disc. Both discs are excellent.

If you want something with energy and depth look no further than:

Assemblage 23
Apoptygma Berzerk
Covenant

A dash of club, industrial and synthpop.

Thanks for all the input people! im enjoying a lot of these bands. Some i'd never heard of before.

El Scorcho 02-11-02 12:04 AM

For the love of god, do yourself a favor -- get $10, go to best buy and grab Unwritten Law - Elva. Came out 2 weeks ago and it's my album of this (so far) short year.

UL is skate-punk, not much different than Mxpx, but still much better.

Giles 02-11-02 10:32 AM

The Hives
Pinehurst Kids

If you like REM, check out a British band called Witness (UK) they have two incredibly underrated album - highly recommended.

Not really new, since they have since broke up, but check out a band called Symposium. A great psuedo pop/punk band that has what many similiar bands dont have - a tune. Also check out Idlewild.
