Originally posted by Yancey Have you seen the film as well? I was disappointed in the musical selections (although my jaw dropped when Emmet Rhodes came on), especially compared to Rushmore and Bottle Rocket. I don't know exactly what is on the soundtrack, so those impressions are based on the film. I don't like the two Nico tracks ("These Days" and "The Fairest of the Seasons") outside of the film. The Emitt Rhodes track is on there, as is the excellent Nick Drake "Fly". There's a strange Dylan track and the typical Clash, Ramones, VU, etc. Though, as with Rushmore, the lack of Rolling Stones is puzzling. I wonder if there's some rights issues or if it's all about the $$. Also missing, and disappointingly so, is the instrumental version of "Hey Jude" that opens the film. I was so hoping that it was going to be included on the CD. |
Berlioz~ The Damnation of Faust
Dungeon Family~ Even In Darkness Rage Against the Machine~ Self-titled Idlewild~ 100 Broken Windows Weezer~ Pinkerton (I think I listen to those last two every day) |
Originally posted by Oliver Clothesoff Saw the film twice. The soundtrack seems to focus on the melancholy side of the film. The Mothersbaugh instrumentals are really the highlight of the soundtrack and they stand out a lot more than in the film. He's really improved as a film score musician and the pieces are much more varied compared with Rushmore. But I was really disappointed that "Ruby Tuesday" was used. I think that is an awful Stones song and too predictable. The only reason "Yesterday's Papers" made it was because it preceded "Ruby Tuesday" on Between the Buttons. |
Picked up the A Camp record yesterday because it was used and a friend of mine had been raving about it. I'm listening to it now and I am really, really, really impressed. Wow, this is good stuff. I'm really surprised by how much I like it. And I'm sure those of you who know my taste would be suprised too if you were familiar with what this sounds like.

CDNow lists the A Camp album as a import release I thought a domestic edition had come out. Oh well, guess I am gonna add this to my Amazon wishlist.

Kyuss ....And the Circus Leaves Town
Stoner rock by a band that I think later transformed into the Queens of the Stone Age. Produced by Chris Goss who heads the underrated Masters of Reality. |
