Miles Davis
The Beatles
Nirvana
Captian Beefheart
Can (from Delay 1969 to Soon over Babaluma (1974))

I know it's suppost to be a top ten but hey, let us not limit ourselves to just 10.

I only picked nine, as there's tons more I could've put in there. If the Donnas' next album can be as great as "Spend The Night", they may make the list.

*shudders*

I just looked at my old list. I'm not even going to make one now since I think in terms of albums and songs, not so much bands anymore.

My pantheon of current artists is Do Make Say Think, Animal Collective, Fennesz, Jim O'Rourke, The Microphones and Xiu Xiu. I also l-lo-love Deerhoof but haven't gotten my hands on their early material to say for sure.

As far as across the board, uuh, Nina Simone, Tortoise, Sonic Youth, New Order, Prince, maybe some others. The Pixies recorded my favorite album, Surfer Rosa, and Olivia Tremor Control, Pere Ubu, Television, The Replacements, Vashti Bunyan, and Talking Heads all have runners up.

That's about as good as I can do. I still learn more about music every day (recent obsessions = This Heat, Serge Gainsbourg, Public Image Ltd., and Julie Doiron) so I don't feel like I ever will make a comprehensive list of any sort. It has more to do with my own inadequacy than a grumble with general lists.
