For what artists/bands will you buy a new CD sight unseen?
I'm pretty picky as to what I buy, but if there's anything new relesaed from Rush, Marillion, Dream Theater, or Yes, I am all over it. But that's about it. How about you?
|
Wilco, the Eels, Ryan Adams, Jewel... I think that's about it.
|
Just about all the artists I listen to. Maybe that's the reason I listen to them.
|
Dream Theater and Pedro the Lion
|
Just U2.
|
Tori Amos, Bjork, and probably a couple others I can't think of right now
|
Alice Cooper,KISS, Neil Diamond, Wierd Al, GVSB.....
But the 'Above All' selection would be Brian WIlson. The cover could have a piece of ,well, you know..wrapped in a bow...and have 50 warning labels that said "SUKKK" and I'd STILL buy it as an unknown. |
It used to be U2 until I felt burned badly by their last album.
The first band that popped in my mind was the Trash Can Sinatras. Everything they've released in the past 12 years is awesome. |
Def Leppard; Bon Jovi; Star Wars soundtracks; and I buy the Now That's What I Call Music CDs sight unseen just to "keep up"
|
Garth Brooks Madonna Alan Jackson Melissa Etheridge
Trisha Yearwood Sort of like in shopping for groceries or something: Loyalty :) |
The "sacred six" to whom I'll always listen, follow and pay ridiculous amounts of money to see live - no matter how irrelevant or bloated and "ready for Vegas" they become - are as follows:
- U2 - R.E.M. - Prince (even though the hope of him ever returning to the fold and producing anything resembling the pop gems of the late 80s has all but faded - especially with "The Rainbow Children" - WTF?) - The Cure - Depeche Mode (although I absolutely LOATHED "Exciter" and was really, really bored at the show this past summer) - The Smiths / Morrissey |
Ben Folds
Garbage Foo Fighters Harry Connick Jr Travis |
- SnoopDogg
- Ludacris - Ja Rule |
U2
Radiohead Fiona Apple Counting Crows :johnwoo::D |
X-Raided
H-Wood Jude Vanilla Ice Days of the New Metallica |
Ween
Tori Amos Nate Dogg Paris Kurupt Bjork |
Def Leppard
Aerosmith Garth Brooks Alan Jackson Hank Williams, Jr. Poison Trisha Yearwood |
Would buy even if I'm homeless and living in a crackhouse
• R.E.M. • Peter Gabriel (not that I have to worry since he hasn't put out a real disc since 1992!!!) • David Bowie • Guided By Voices • The Beatles ("unreleased" stuff like the anthologies... not that we're likely to get much more of that :( ) 90% likely to buy but may wait until I've read a few reviews • Elvis Costello - was a must buy until recent collaborations that aren't my fancy • Radiohead • Everclear (last two were a little weak) • Tom Waits • Richard Thompson • Lou Reed • Michael Penn • Lucinda Williams |
Dream Theater
and all their side projects:Mullmuzzler, Liquid Tension Experiment, Platypus, Jelly Jam, Croma Key, Derek Sherinian & Jordan Rudess solo stuff, Explorers Club, Trans-atlantic Rush Pink Floyd The Corrs Prince Steve Vai |
Aphex Twin
Bjork Tool Automator |
Artists CDs I'd buy sight unseen:

David Bowie - even though his last album was awful.

New Order

Depeche Mode

Madonna - her newer music is much better than the stuff she put out in the early 80s.

De/Vision

U2

Loreena McKennitt

Artists I used to buy sight unseen, but don't anymore: Iggy Pop Lou Reed REM |
Martin Sexton
SLAYER Jean-Luc Ponty Clutch The Sundays |
Sarah McLachlan
|
Will be bought on release day:
Bryan Adams Collective Soul Def Leppard -exConn |
If a band puts out an album that I loved, meaning the whole album is great, I'll buy their next release without hearing anything off of it. I'm even more likely to buy it if they've had several albums I've loved. However if I buy the new album, and don't like it, I'll be skeptical of picking up their next release.
Examples: Pearl Jam Dave Matthews Stone Temple Pilots Live etc. |
