Having 2,000 Cd's doesn't seem that weird to me to be honest. I think it's VERY strange to own that many DVD's. Or half that. Or a fourth of that. I mean, don't you listen to music over and over compared to a movie? I can probably only list 10 movies that I could watch more than 2 times. And I LOVE movies. I find it much stranger to own a lot of movies instead of renting ones that you haven't seen before. But there are plenty of CD's I like to listen to a lot. Sure, I have some music I just own to have... sort of the collectors mentality. It's my one true hobby!

I've got about 140 right now. I'm amazed at the collections up in the thousands.
|
Over 600, but not sure of the exact number.
|
226 in 6 years.
|
right around 600.
started buying cds in 1993/94 |
Probably somewhere around 500-600..maybe more..
I cant keep track..lol |
Long time since I counted! Probably around 400.
I started buying 11 years ago several months in advance of getting a CD player and associated hi-fi in the summer of 1991! I need to get them into some kind of order again. Got to find some better storage! |
According to the cdtracker I use, 883 total. I stopped buying cd's at the emergence of DVD's. Since moving closer to my job my travel time has been reduced [was 45min now 15min]. I don't have travel time but for 2 -3 songs.

1700 titles here and still going :)
|
I'm around 350 right now (since 1992), and I've slowed down considerably in the last 2 years since I started buying DVDs and because most recent music, in my opinion, is worthless.
I used to buy almost 2 or 3 per week, but I'd be surprised if I've bought 2 or 3 per year the last two years. If anything, I buy albums from older groups. And, truth by told, I probably buy considerably less due in large part to MP3s. |
Originally posted by joshhinkle I'm shocked at some of the numbers. How do you guys with thousands of cd's justify having them? It's funny though. Sometimes, even with all these tunes at my disposal, there are days when I feel like I've just run out of things to play. I get that music shop "twitch" where I just want to head to the local indie shop and flip idly through new discs. It's a sickness, I know. But I've adapted to it. |
I started buying CD's around 89/90 and was up to about 750 titles 2 years ago when I decided to get rid of all the CDs I'd probably never listen to again. I dropped down to about 400, but now I'm up to about 575. I was making it a point to sell an old CD every time I bought a new one (so I would have a place to store them all!), but I've laxed a bit on that now. I'm going to start going through my collection twice a year to get rid of more stuff. QUALITY, NOT QUANTITY!

About 850-1,000. I used to work in a Music Store, & I'd guess 1/3 of them are promos.

Originally posted by grunter Why would I need to justify the number of CDs that I own? Though I'll admit that having thousands of DVD's is weirder IMO. You can listen to music all the time, while your driving, while your jogging, while your working, etc. With movies you have to invest 2 hours of your time to sit down and watch it, so if you have a 1000 dvds they'd each get played a lot less often on average than a 1000 cd's. I have 239 CDs and 101 DVDs and I'm very happy with my collection. I can find something I want to listen, or something I feel like watching, anytime. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with owning thousands of cd's or dvd's. I was just curious and I've always been somewhat fascinated by the notion of people having such huge collections and interested in hearing them say how they justify spending all that money on them. |
Originally posted by joshhinkle I'm shocked at some of the numbers. How do you guys with thousands of cd's justify having them? Hell over half of our collection probably hasn't been listened to in the past year, and some of you guys have over 20 times the number we have. |
I own around 1,500 CDs or something like that. I don't have enough money these days to buy too much new stuff, but I still pick up probably 5 to 10 discs a month.

I have about 700 CDs. (Give or take 10 or so...)
|
Between 300-400. Not counting the ones I burn myself.
|
About 1,000, give or take. I too am amzed at some of the collections you have all gathered. Man, my parents used to tell me I had enough cassettes at about 100 :p

I would say probably at least 1500. Mind you I also collect UK CD Singles so..... I would actually be afraid to count them all. My big problem is space, I have so many CD's that I have had to throw away the jewel cases and start putting them in three ring binders and now with my hobby of buying DVD's the space issue is even worse.

How many cds do you own?
How many cds does everybody own?
I have 1700 cds and 200 cd-rs and i got like 100 tapes and 100 dubbed tapes |
About 2,000 discs... a few hundred LPs... a lot of tapes all of which used to be blank ;) I just moved my whole music collection to a friend's basement while we try and sell our home. Moving the CD's wasn't a big deal... the albums however were a royal pain. I wish I could make some money selling that stuff, but they aren't worth much. I used to think I had a bunch of dud compact discs until I made a killing on Ebay with some out of print garbage.
|
Between 400-500 albums in my CD collection. I've been collection for a long time.
|
About 1000. i've got some of my collection catalogued on CDTracker, but i've got a ways to go....
|
About 900 now, working on putting them all into Music Collector from collectorz.com...
|
between 450-500 actual cds, and about 200 cd-r's....
MATT real cd's kick cd-r's ass |
I've got about 700-800 cds, I'd guess and about 200 cd-r's, which are mostly (legal) live shows.
|
I only have about 150. :) I am really low.
|
As of today, 293.
|
300-325, maybe. Just one of 'em is a CD-R.
|
Somewhere around 350 I would guess.
|
Wormwood....
....that is about 15 a month!

1300, give or take, all in artist alphabetical order and then by release date.
|
only a mere 400.
|
I giggle looking at the answers here. When I was 25, I had about 2000 CDs. But then space, time and money became factors.
I have narrowed it down to 200, and I feel naked. |
1576 CDs, I think, according to cdtracker.
I've been collecting them since 1994 and in the last year, since I met a fellow music fanatic, I've added about 800. I buy a lot of used, especially when it's mainstream stuff. Otherwise, mainstream I get through CH, doing the music club the same way everyone does the DVD club. But I also listen to a lot of indie and imports that are impossible to get used, so it all balances out in the end. Last 4 purchases - new albums by David Bowie, Dirty Vegas, Elbow, Doves |
