Your dvd player will play them in 5.1, but unless you have a player with dvd-audio capabilities, you aren't getting the true 'dvd-audio sound', which IS in fact better than regular 5.1. There are also some video features on the dvd-audio discs that can only be viewed with a dvd-audio player. I have:
Metallica-Black
Stone Temple Pilots-Core
Doors-L.A. Woman
Deep Purple-Machine Head
They all sound great, but I'm waiting to see what else comes out before getting a new player.

I only have one "Metallica" and it rocks, I listen in 5.1 on my regular player and it's like hearing a whole new album. Even if you don't have a dvd-audio player, check them out.

With the pre-order of the Randy Travis -Live: It Was Just A Matter Of Time DVD from DVDEmpire, it came with a free DVD-Audio of the whole concert. It plays very well through the DVD player, and I've had no problems.
Now, I have 3 versions of this same concert (DVD, DVD-Audio, and CD) for whatever my mood may be at the time.
