I always liked the movie, its one of the best "blockbuster movies" People pick away at the plot etc, but this isnt a movie where you examine everylittle thing, just sit back and enjoy

I think I was a senior in high school when this thread was originally posted...

Actually I enjoyed Armageddon, as a popcorn flick. Just entertainment. Nothing else.

I liked it, too. Never really noticed the rapid-fire editing though. Oh well.

A movie can't be considered the greatest, as a joke or seriously, unless it has an anamorphic dvd transfer.

Enjoy what?? Having your audible and visual senses assaulted??? (By assaulted, I mean "raped"!)

How insane or dumb does someone need to be to enjoy THAT??????

Resurrection: I will never say this is the greatest film ever made. Not by a long shot. I mean it’s incredibly stereotypical, incredibly dumb and all Micheal Bay cheese whiz. But g-damn if it’s not a fun damn movie with a cast that works so well together. It’s hokey, dumb, silly, thrilling, action packed, funny and does have heart and those feel good chills inducing moments. It’s complete cheese and I’m loving it!

As the OP pointed out 21 years ago, the film does have an amazing cast. It’s like every huge indie actor of that time period, led by one of the biggest movie stars in Hollywood on a crazy space mission.

Kind of weird timing this thread was resurrected, but since I bought it recently on Vudu as part of the Disney sale, I finally watched it a few nights ago. I honestly couldn't get past the first half hour. My 7 year olf boy even walked out, but did say "this is a loud movie" before heading out. Talk about a movie that doesn't hold up well, especially 20 years later when we got movies like Moon and Interstellar. This movie was Bay at peak ADD filmmaking. What a damn headache it is. And makes me appreciate Deep Impact all the more.

I watched it a few months back with my kids. Yes it's big and dumb, but it's still damn entertaining. The cast chemistry holds it together despite the ADD editing which did stand out to me more now than it did back then.

I hate that stupid Aerosmith song but I still have the Criterion DVD for the gag reel. It's one of my favorite dvd extras ever made.

What a fucking dumb silly movie that I was grinning throughout. None of it makes sense and how some of those scenes were green lit. The 2nd moon buggy that took flight and landing perfectly safe. Hilarious. What a great fun movie.

It's alright for me I guess as I don't hate or love it like most, but but guilty pleasure, guilty pleasure man...so what? There's a billion and 1 other better guilty pleasure films out there too.

Re: Armageddon is the Greatest Film ever made. Period.

Even 18 year old me seeing this in the theater was lukewarm on this and it was exactly the type of film I went gaga for in my teens. I saw this on cable a few weeks ago and it’s even worse than I remembered. It’s not the worst movie but it’s certainly isn’t great. I’ve got the Criterion DVD but I think I’ve only ever watched it once.

My 90s Michael Bay love sits firmly with The Rock. I’d rank that one in my Top 5 Action movies.

Seeing messageboard posts that were made in the 90's is really bizarre. If humanity somehow doesn't go extinct in the next 100 years, I can't imagine what reading a 100 year old messageboard would be like.

Same here... I made it about half way thru before falling asleep. I still enjoy it and it was worth the $5 for digital... I'm assuming the longer cut will never get a proper HD release. Deep Impact never puts me to sleep... much better film. I watched it again maybe 6 months ago.

It's one my only DVDs (outside music) that survived the great purge last year.

I liked it enough that I bought the Criterion release and sold the regular store-bought copy. It's not my favorite movie but it sure is fun.

Ive been a fan of this movie since it came out, its not high brow cinema but thats okay. Not every movie has to to be enjoyable, the cast really makes this one for me it came out around the same time Deep Impact did and I like that one too. Disaster flicks are great for a easy watch that just helps me tune out the bleh of the day sometimes

Re: Armageddon is the Greatest Film ever made. Period.

Directed by anyone else, this would have never made money and nobody would care. But Bay has that extensively visceral style that is as effective on your feelings as a roller coaster. And The Rock -> Armageddon was his prime. Transformers 3 felt close. I’m always looking forward to his next movie.
