The Coffee Table (La Mesita del Comedor)(2022, D:Caye Casas)

There are fucked up movies, and then there's The Coffee Table. Currently streaming on Shudder, it's not really a horror movie, and yet it also very much is. I can't say anything else about it, because to do so would spoil it. All I'll say is that if you have taboos, something you don't think should be depicted on film, then this one is not for you. This movie "goes there". And it stays there.

Seriously, don't read any more about it. If you've got a strong enough constitution (but trust me, you're gonna be offended regardless), give this one a viewing ASAP.

Title makes it sound like The Notebook or The Sisterhood of Traveling Pants.

Really tho I heard whatever happens is disturbing. Since it's on Shudder I'll probably turn on my subscription and watch.

Well, it's an appropriate title as the coffee table does indeed have an integral role in the story.

Is this an adaptation of Kramer's book?

If it comes out on Blu Ray, I'd certainly hope the case could become a coffee table if you didn't already have one.

I enjoyed it. Wasn't as disturbing as I thought it'd be, but that says more about me than the movie.

Can somebody spoiler tag the gruesome things depicted in the movie?

I'm tempted to answer this, because I know some people may not want to see what happens in this movie. But really, the entire premise, and ultimate "enjoyment" (quote marks very much needed there) depends almost entirely on going in blind. I.E., if I told you what happens, you might say "ah, that's not so bad" but you already lose the power of the film knowing what happens.

You gotta take your chances and just watch it.
