He’s been battling throat cancer for years, but died from pneumonia. He fought a long hard battle.

So sad. One of the greats.

Tombstone, Thunderheart, Willow, Top Gun, The Island of Dr. Moreau, The Ghost and the Darkness, The Doors and Batman Forever are all great films with great Val Kilmer performances. Plus I can't think of another actor alive or dead who could have played Jim Morrison. RIP.

Way too soon. Remembered for Willow from my youth, Top Gun, Tombstone and Heat from my teens, and Top Gun Maverick as the best on screen goodbye.

RIP

It was not the greatest movie he did but he appeared in the Birthday Cake with Shiloh Fernandez and maybe his last acting role besides Top Gun Maverick.

Way too young at 65. It was sad when he got sick and even more now that he's gone. I feel like I grew up watching his movies starting with Top Secret, Real Genius, Willow. He was naturally cool with a ton of charisma. The Doors pretty much got me hooked on their music. He disappeared into the role. He seemed to be everywhere in 90's and even if the movie tanked he was game.

This one hurts. I’d add a couple of later movies, The Salton Sea, Spartan, Wonderland and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang were all great.

That was a great run. Felon with Stephen Dorff was a good one too. After that he made a lot of trash. Tombstone is probably my favorite performance, but there are a lot to choose from. First his reputation damaged his career and when he got sick he just couldn't do the work anymore. I recommend his documentary VAL.

This hurts a lot.

Real Genius is one of my favorite movies.
Tombstone is my favorite Western by far and Doc Holliday in that movie might be my second favorite character to Han Solo of all time.
The Saint and The Ghost and the Darkness are criminally underrated.
Heat, Top Gun, The Doors, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang all tremendous... and he was a great Batman/Bruce Wayne.

RIP

So many iconic roles though he'll always be Chris Knight to me. Val is an excellent, and very touching, documentary that every fan of his should see.

Condolences to his family and friends.

I enjoyed just about every move he made. That is rare for an actor. RIG Rest in Greatness. :(

Real Genius rewatch tonight for sure. It's one of my all-timers.

Everyone has their favorite lines but some of his physical acting stays with me the most. The way he looks at Kent during the test-taking montage is a move I'm still trying to perfect. At :28 seconds here.

He just seemed like the coolest guy in the room in everything he did. Willow, Top Gun, Tombstone, Heat....even Batman Forever. And Kiss Kiss Bang Bang let him be funny again, which I loved. RIP to a true legend.

Re: Val Kilmer Has Passed Away at 65

I am going to re-post my comment from another blog:

I love that the first comment on this thread mentions Real Genius (edited to add that the first post in the Blog post about Val Kilmer's passing mentions Real Genius, a fave film of mine). I have also seen most of his other well known films, Tombstone, Top Secret!, The Island Of Dr. Moreau (the reviews for this film were um, interesting, so I had to see it in theaters with my own eyes), the Top Gun films, Willow, Heat, The Saint, kiss kiss bang bang, The Prince Of Egypt, Thunderheart.

Oftentimes, he was a standout in the role even if the film was just average at best.

Of the many roles folks know him for, I have not seen his turn in the Bat Suit.

I also seem to have not seen most of the DTV stuff he did in the past 20 or so years of his career (had no clue he was in so many films that did not get a theatrical release).

He was a top shelf actor for a very commendable period of time, and his role in Heat is one for the ages, just to pick from one of several acclaimed or beloved films he starred in.

Val Kilmer’s character in Heat is the one who kick-starts one of the best gun fight scenes in the entire history of cinema, he will be remembered fondly for his roles by many.

Rest In Peace

This one hits me hard. He's in so many of my favorite movies: Tombstone, both Top Guns, True Romance, MacGruber. I may have to watch Heat and Batman Forever soon since I haven't seen either in awhile.

Real Genius is one of the five or so best comedies ever made. I was fortunate enough to get a Real Genius movie poster signed by him a few years back. It will go on the wall in my theater when I finish it.
