The fact that this is a Happy Gilmore sequel as well is just weird - and really took me out of the movie.

I mentioned that. It was a little bizarre.

Too bad this will never get a physical media release as Paramount sold off the rights to the IP to Netflix. And we all know how much Netflix loves those shiny discs.

Just watched this. Really loved it. I hope Paramount made sure to include a physical release as part of their deal with Netflix (hey, it worked for The Irishman and All Quiet on the Western Front).

I liked how they made it really close to the original. In contrast, the new Bad Boys doesnít feel like the old ones. But rather the 2020s version of Bad Boys thatís sorta a take on the Fast and Furious structure.

Like the original, itís police escapism. Iíve seen so many cop movies and procedural shows. But it still work.

Iíll be watching this a few times.

The original was released 40 YEARS ago. In case you need to feel old.

This was way more fun than it had any right to be. Nice to see everyone back together at the end, and the ending scene was a great throwback and the line about part 3 was hilarious.

This was fun. Felt a bit by numbers, but worked. Iíd be down for another, but the plot would need to be right.

This one ranks about where the second movie did...although I think I liked Part II just a tad more. I was expecting more humor than action in this one, but it's really the other way around. It runs a little long (should have had maybe 10 to 15 minutes trimmed) and I was surprised at how little screen time Judge Reinhold had - I thought he'd have a lot more. So not as good as it could have been, but a whole lot better than I was expecting. I hope they end it here though...no need to tempt fate with a fifth film.

Re: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024, D: Molloy) -- The Reviews Thread

Just finished watching it and found it very enjoyable overall. It doesn't come close to the first one, but it may very well be the best of the sequels. I think it helped to get Bruckheimer back in the producer role as I think he wasn't on board for part III, and it was obvious. Murphy still has his touch and the rest of the cast was great as well. It was pretty fitting to have Kevin Bacon play the heavy (revealed in the first act, so not really a spoiler), as he was another prominent 80s actor. I also liked that they had Axel's daughter Jane be a strong female character, but didn't have her dominate the story and take the spotlight away from Foley. My only real gripe was that they did do a bit of a bait and switch with Rosewood and Taggart. They are both present, but we don't get to see enough of the old style chemistry between them and Foley. Most of the movie is actually a buddy action focusing on Foley and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character of Bobby. Levitt does a good job and is very believable in the role, but it would have been nice to see the original trio take center stage again.

EDIT: I'm not the biggest fan of Happy Gilmore. I find it amusing but Adam Sandler comedies were never my thing overall. That being said, I was scratching my head with the golf course bit. I figured it was supposed to be someone important, but now that I've googled what it meant, I don't think it fit with the BHC universe.

Are y'all sure that was Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, rather than Christopher McDonald as himself? I do believe the actor is an avid golfer IRL.

You guys are way too generous. This was nearly unwatchably bad for me. Nothing but tired, unfunny nostalgia bait. Axel F is pretty much the grade I'd give it.

I thought it was ok. Some laughs and decent plot and action. Iím not sure if I ever saw #3, but itís been so long since I saw any of them that the only returners I identified as such were Rheinhold and Pinchot. 2.5/5 stars

Re: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024, D: Molloy) -- The Reviews Thread

Just 2 minutes in, and I am already irritated by this movie. Axel is driving around Detroit . . . in the winter time . . . in a car without power windows. Yet, he is somehow able to talk to all these people that he is driving past. And it is not like they are on the curb, or that he is yelling exceptionally loudly. I mean, I get the point of what it's revealing about his character, but this is so fucking stupid. If this is where they are at in the opening minute, what is in store for the next two hours?

If you guys donít like this, I suggest you donít revisit the first two and just remember them for the gritty and realistic police procedurals they were.

Now, I am genuinely curious to see how often they denied the natural laws of physics in BHC.

You've seen them, haven't you? If not no real reason to watch this movie. But to answer your question, a lot.

Re: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024, D: Molloy) -- The Reviews Thread

Just finished watching it and it was fine. The best scene in the film is the argument Axel has with the black valet - that was hilarious. The rest of the film was ok. The actress that played Foley's daughter is awful, though. Oh, and the real estate agent was also funny.

I'd rank them:

1, 2, 4.

It's funny I wrote the following comment on a DVD Talk Beverly Hills Cop 4 thread back in 2019 "If they have Eddie Murphy still driving that crappy blue Chevy Nova with the wonky e-brake, at least that would be good for one laugh."

They sorta got it right. The Chevy was beautifully restored and there was no wonky e-brake. Missed opportunity!

I loved the idea that so many action sequences (and I suppose the whole plot) were motivated by the need for the bad guys to recover an SD card containing incriminating evidence when everyone knows an SD card can be duplicated countless times! I also got a kick out of Axel Foley's criminal file folder at the Beverly Hills police station which contained Paramount Pictures' press release photos from the previous films.

Having said that I still enjoyed it as a spirited fun summer action picture and is probably the best since the first film.

I saw all three BHCs when they came out, and I've seen the first BHC several times, but I don't think I have seen any of them in the 21st century. I will finish watching this new movie, but if Axel drops anything and it falls UP, I'm out for good.

Re: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024, D: Molloy) -- The Reviews Thread

After the terrible Coming 2 America and the even worse Candy Cane Lane I had very low expectations. Since I have a cold and was in bed the whole weekend, I used the time and rewatched the old movies. The first one I've watched a lot, the 2nd one only once and the 3rd one more than I should have. The first one is still great, the 2nd one I should have watched more often, it's a solid action comedy and the third one is horrible after the first 20 minutes, those weren't bad at all.

Anyway Axel F was a nice surprise, like the 2nd movie it's a solid action comedy and the team up with Joseph Gordon-Levitt worked really well, they should have cut down on the daughter's screentime though.

He's not immune, but since he barely got stopped by the four gunshot wounds he received during the series, I guess pepper spray hardly has an impact.

Yep, and I can confirm the end credits say that as well, as I was looking to see how he was credited.
