Attack Of The Fifty Foot Woman (D: Burton)

EXCLUSIVE: In the wake of Barbie racking up eight Oscar nominations including Best Picture and becoming Warner Brosí highest-grossing movie of all time at $1.44 billion, hereís another female-power event project thatís in the works under the Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy administration.

We understand that Tim Burton is attached to direct Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman, a reimagined telling of the 1958 Warner Bros. movie classic, which Gone Girl scribe and Sharp Objects Emmy nominee Gillian Flynn is writing.

The original sci-fi cult classic made for a reported $88,000 starred Allison Hayes as a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an alien triggers her to grow into a giant, complicating her marriage, which is already in turmoil, no thanks to her philandering husband.

Burton has delivered reimagined í50s sci-fi movies before for a mass audience, that being 1996ís Mars Attacks!, which was actually based on the Topps trading cards and featured an ensemble cast of Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening, Natalie Portman, Danny DeVito, Michael J. Fox and others. The movie grossed over $101M at the global box office.

Burton is producing Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper. Kai Dolbashian is an EP.

Love Burton and Gillian Flynn has been pretty consistent, but this project seems like it's out of her normal range.

I canít imagine it doing Barbie business, but the original is a B classic with a premise that could easily withstand smart new interpretations, especially in our present times. I wasnít impressed with the Darryl Hannah TV version, so seeing the concept redone with a big-screen budget is kinda overdue.

Mind you, it could also revive less-than-savoury interest in (or sequels to) the GIANTESS BATTLE films (3 so far), ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT CAM GIRL, ATTACK OF THE 60 FOOT CENTERFOLD, and ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT CHEERLEADER, which are mostly populated by T&A starlets and moonlighting porn stars, because exploitation producers like Jim Wynorski, Roger Corman, Fred Olan Ray and Charles Band never really gave up on the concept.

It's a chance for Burton to combine his love of Godzilla stomping stuff, B movies, and beautiful women.

If he brings 80s/90s Burton, this could work. I just imagine an awful looking cgi 50ft woman.

I had no idea there was a Daryl Hannah version, I may have to find that this weekend.

As for Burton? Eh, haven't really watched anything of his in years.

The Daryl Hannah version was one of those movies that played almost on a loop on HBO back in the day.

I donít remember it being terribly great but I was a kid and really only recall a scantily clad Hannah stomping around.

If it's in the Mars Attacks range, yeah I'm all aboard.
