Dune: Messiah -- news, rumors, etc. DUN3 "Dishes are Dune, man."

Not officially announced yet, but it seems inevitable...

The director has also gone on record expressing interest in making a third “Dune” movie, one based on Frank Herbert’s follow-up novel “Dune Messiah.” Back in August, Villeneuve told Empire magazine: “If I succeed in making a trilogy, that would be the dream. I will say, there are words on paper [for a third film].”

Speaking to South Korean press, Villeneuve said “Dune Messiah” is “being written right now. The screenplay is almost finished but it is not finished. It will take a little time…There’s a dream of making a third movie…it would make absolute sense to me.”

Villeneuve noted how he went immediately from making the first “Dune” movie into making the second and “there was no gap.” He doesn’t want to do the same thing in going from “Dune: Part Two” directly into “Dune Messiah,” plus the existence of a third “Dune” film probably depends on the box office of “Part Two” anyway.

“I don’t know exactly when I will go back to Arrakis,” Villeneuve said. “I might make a detour before just to go away from the sun. For my mental sanity I might do something in between, but my dream would be to go a last time on this planet that I love.”

I’m already hearing rumblings that WB is so bullish on Villeneuve’s vision for Dune that Part Three has been already been greenlit with a 2027 release date in mind. WB sees Part Two as a home run, and internally, I’m hearing the studio is already projecting an opening north of $100 million. That may be optimistic, but given the trailer above, hardly out of the question.

I know as far as fans of Herbert's books go I am in the minority because I loved Dune Messiah upon first reading it. I understand why many initially disliked it but it was a wonderful sequel that didn't simply retread the first book. I do wonder how today's filmgoers would react to the story.

I'm holding out hope that they can at least do Dune Messiah, Children of Dune, and God Emperor of Dune.

Be sweet if they could go all the way with Heretics of Dune, Chapterhouse Dune, and Hunters/Sandworms of Dune.

Then do Legends of Dune (Machine Crusade, Butlerian Jihad, and Battle of Corrin) as animated series.

Unfortunately, Dune Messiah will probably kill the franchise.

Re: Dune: Part Two (2024, D: Villeneuve) 2une: I Could Dune This All Day

Denis Villeneuve says that if Dune Messiah gets greenlit, it will be his last Dune movie.

These are pretty intense to make, I can see him wanting to move on.

Let's hope for strong first week numbers for part 2.

They've avoided showing or explaining the purpose of Guild Navigators in the last two films, but hopefully Edric will be included if this gets made.

I'm also imagining who they could cast as Scytale. Barry Keoghan would be appropriately creepy.

Hopefully #2 does well enough to get this made

I would go with either him or Jared Leto, but Leto is a bit of a reputable jerk and they may not want to deal with him. Given the plot of the book, they also need to bring back
Spoiler:
Jason Momoa

Move the Dune series to MAX (not just the Bene Gesserit show). The first season can be Dune Messiah since it will pretty much be the only season with the film cast anyhow (except Momoa). Then you can continue the entire saga for as long as it will hold interest.

I'm actually hoping (probably against hope) that MAX will present the two part adaptation in extended form as a series when/if the release of Messiah is made official.

My guess is if/when Dune Messiah gets made, it will be released as "Dune: Part 3" - I'm guessing Warners will insist on that title.
