It's interesting to me that they chose to put this out at Christmas, instead of a few weeks later in January when there is traditionally a Saturday and Sunday audience for chick-flick rom-coms starring blonde TV stars.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

I just got back from seeing it. Decent amount of people in the smaller theater this was in.

It was cute. Sweeney and Powell do have good chemistry. The story is a little corny and relies on a big coincidence that draws Bea and Ben together. And there are some cringe moments.

The Sydney Australia scenes were really nice. And just to satisfy some curiosity, the movie takes place around December 22nd, but it's Australia's summer.

There is some partial nudity and a lot of F bombs dropped. I did get some laughs.

This was the 1st time I've seen anything with Sweeney. She's beautiful, but is IMO a little wooden in her delivery. But, I liked Powell. The dude has charisma.

I'd give it between a B and B- I think this movie is not for the vast majority of this forum, especially if you don't like Rom Coms.

Also, I did not even realize until I checked IMDB. Hadley Robinson from Winning Time plays one of the supporting characters. The GF/Fiance of Ben's best friend's sister.

Probably for the Academy Awards eligibility window.

This is getting a re-release for Valentines Day with 4 more minutes of footage.

And the movie turned out to be a pretty big hit for a modestly budgeted Rom Com.

$126.5M worldwide

Weird to compete against yourself... but I guess get it while the gettin's good. They've been using Sydney to promote Madame Web more now.

The extended cut for this is being released back in theaters on Friday. I think I will give it another watch on Saturday. I doubt I'll notice any difference.

It's now topped $152M worldwide. Pretty impressive. Movies like this rarely do this well anymore and this had incredible staying power.

Was going to go see this tomorrow, but I might as well wait until after Friday to see the extra version now.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

I hope the extended version is what we get when it hits the streaming services. If not, I still am anticipating watching this soon enough if I can end up seeing it for "free," via the streamers I already pay for (such as Peacock, Hulu, Paramount+ but I do not pay for Showtime, MAX, or Netflix).

ETA: DJariya, good to know it will be on Netflix sometime this year. I also hope that xfinity does what they did last year and offers a summer of movies rental deal where you pay only $1.99 or .99 cents for an on-demand rental that they normally rent to you for no more than $5.99 a film (although they were sneaky, and had so many films that did not qualify for the rental promo because they were asking for $6.99 or $7.99 to rent, lol), and this film qualifies.

It's a Sony movie. It will be on Netflix in about 6 months.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

Saw the Valentine Encore tonight. It's not an "Extended Cut"

Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney appeared at the beginning together thanking everyone for supporting the movie and said they would be back after the credits for a special treat.

And then after the credits finished, they presented an extended blooper reel to Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" that ran for about 4 minutes. That's all. Some of the clips were funny.

Still enjoyed seeing it again, but nothing really worth another trip (unless you have like A-List) I suppose it's possible the blooper reel could appear on the digital or BD, but doubt the on camera appearances by them will.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

I saw it around the first week in January and liked it. The good outweighed the bad for me. Glenn Powell and Sydney Sweeney had great chemistry on screen and it was good to see some fresh faces at the movies. If Hollywood wants to return to relevancy it needs to get back to releasing these smaller to mid range budgeted movies and let them become hits over a period of time. It feels like Rom Coms have been mostly on streaming the last 4-5 years and it would be great to see them make a comeback in theaters.

This is enjoyable enough but it very much felt like a director for hire situation doing the bare minimum to get it out the door. Every bit of dialog, every sequence is just unnaturally forced, the pacing is off, characters are broadly sketched, the whole situation is insanely contrived.

And still, enjoyable enough.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

The wife and I were able to catch a showing of this on Saturday...LOVED it.

I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this. Glenn looks to be on his way to becoming a big star he just has it as DJariya mentioned. The wife is now a fan and I can introduce her to Everybody Wants Some!!! (I fricken' love that movie)

It did not hurt that Sweeney is a smoke show. I gave out a little wow out loud when I first saw her in the bikini. I of course got an elbow for that...

At $190M gross, it's the highest-grossing Shakespeare adaptation ever, apparently... and weirdly.

Edit : Highest-grossing Live-Action adaptation. Don't know if Gnomeo and Juliette made more, or whether they consider The Lion King an adaptation of Macbeth.

My wife and I enjoyed it. It's nice to have an easygoing comedy that wasn't incredibly over the top.

This was decent. I think I’m becoming obsessed with Glen Powell. He’s in everything now. This wasn’t high art, but fun little rom-com waster. My favorite was seeing Gata from tv show Dave.

^Maybe those folks got it mixed up with "King Lear" rather than "Macbeth"?

Netflix release date. Or if you want to own it, it’s now $9.99 at Fandango at home.

Re: Anyone But You (2023, D: Gluck) -- S: Sydney Sweeney, Glen Powell

I thought this movie was trash. Good looking people but the plot was razor thin and predictable as hell. I don't expect it to have plot twists but I shouldn't be able to predict lines before they're spoken.
