Great actor and I just watched him in Sleepy Hollow recently. He was cast to replace Richard Harris as Dumbledore in the second Harry Potter movie. A long list of credits on stage and in film as well.

The first movie I think of upon hearing his name is The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover

R.I.P.

Awww. That's sad news.

Yep, CTWL was the first thing I remember seeing him in, as well.

Most recently watched him in Fortitude, though that was 5 years ago.

RIP

There is something about seeing an actor such as Michael Gambon, with such a distinguished career on both the stage and in films, reduced to "he played Dumbledore ..." in his obituary headline. Not blaming the OP here, as I've seen it on other sites as well, but to me, at least, it just emphasizes the dumbing down of our society as we inch our way closer to Idiocracy every day.

RIP, Mr. Gambon.

Yes, that's what I remember him most for. Great performance and great film.
I've never seen a Harry Potter movie and didn't know he was in it.

RIP, Mr. Gambon.
Oh come off it. That's just going to be his most broadly-recognized role, even recently. He's definitely going to be a "that guy" to a lot of people outside of his HP work (which I don't think should be put down so much, because he really helps elevate those). In fact, I'd call this a shrewd move by news sites, as they're grabbing attention with the headline, then delving into his entire body of work, exposing people who may not be familiar with his other stuff.

People have always been dumb, there's just more of us and we can more easily view behavior.
