Hapless family man Paul Matthews (Nicolas Cage) finds his life turned upside down when millions of strangers suddenly start seeing him in their dreams. But when his nighttime appearances take a nightmarish turn, Paul is forced to navigate his newfound stardom, in this wickedly entertaining comedy from writer-director Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself) and producer Ari Aster.

I pointed out in the other Nic Cage movie thread that “Saban Films” is the kiss of death for any movie. “A24” is the exact opposite. I’ll definitely check this out.

I was getting some Adaptation vibes from that trailer.

I would love to see Cage win another Oscar. It would be a great Hollywood “comeback” story.

Cage was on Colbert back in the spring, to promote RENFIELD I think, and was asked to name his five favourite films. PIG was his favourite film that he’d made up to that point, followed by MANDY (couldn’t agree more, despite those who diss it), BRINGING OUT THE DEAD, BAD LIEUTENANT, and JOE. I’m sure he might’ve been spitballing a bit because it was a high-profile talk show gig which he hadn’t seemed to have in quite a while, but he was quick enough with those first two to convince me that they really were his faves.

I thought I saw him quoted somewhere saying DREAM SCENARIO was also now a favorite as well.

Gotta give the guy credit: even some of his paycheque movies turn out to be quite good, or at least surprisingly not awful — just saw WILLY’S WONDERLAND recently and thought he was pretty cool in that. He rarely seems to phone it in, which is probably what kept him on the backburner in the minds of a lot of filmmakers, who are now calling him up pretty regularly.

Borgli's first feature, Sick of Myself, is definitely worth checking out. Great satire. Currently on Showtime / Paramount+.

Nope. I was thinking of those movies when I made my post. He's starred in a lot of stinkers, yet lately he's been headlining some really good projects. I'm hoping to see this trend continue.

While he has been in a lot of terrible movies, I always appreciated he gave a Nicolas Cage performance. He didn't sleepwalk through those movies like a lot of his colleagues. At least not those I watched and I watched a lot.
But it's nice to see he's coming back to better scripts and better directed movies.

Looks interesting.

One of the local Regal Theaters in my neighborhood will be screening this, so I'll definitely check it out.
