“Saban Films” is always the kiss of death for a quality movie but screw it, I’m always down to watch Nicolas Cage. Cage hamming it up as a grizzled mountain man is enough to convince me.

I was chatting with my mother-in-law tonight and she mentioned this movie. Apparently her cousin is the original author of the book this movie is based on (John Williams. No the other John Williams).

This wasn't much more than ok. Perfectly competent filmmaking with some nice location cinematography and solid performances. It hits most of the familiar beats for the genre, but it never really ratchets the tension up particularly high. Part of this is the movie's struggle to convey the passage of time, which is a central element to the story.

As for Cage, this is a surprisingly middle of the road performance. There are one of two moments where it feels like he might go into high gear, but he never gets there. It's a perfectly acceptable performance, and would have been fine in a better movie, but this one needed a little extra sizzle.

I saw this. pretty good movie imo. I like Nic Cage in most everything, but this was a raw, especially cowboy gruff type of movie. not exactly a traditional western, but pretty effective nonetheless.

The poor buffalo suffered enough in this country and then this movie came along.

Nothing really special and a weird way to send the message of buffalo conservation with them getting slaughtered and cut up throughout the movie.
