Ever watch a newer movie back to back?

I don’t know why, but lately all the movies I like I seem to have this urge to rewatch the day after. Never felt that way before. I just need to see a newer released movie back to back. I’ve done it with so many movies of late. Even ones I’m not so fond of, like Ant-Man 3. I just feel this need.

Others lately like Top Gun: Maverick (this is at least 6x now). Across the Spider-Verse, The Menu, so many others.

Sometimes I wonder if I’m wasting my time, but never feels as such which is why I’m doing a lot.

Do you do that?

Two I can think of: I watched Heathers for the first time and rewound the VHS and watched it again. I saw Black Swan in the theater, loitered around until the next showing and watched it again.

The first one was accidental: I went to the matinee of Arachnophobia. When I came home, my parents decided to go to the movies to see Arachnophobia at the evening show. I didn't want to admit I'd just seen it, afraid they'd say, "Well, then you don't need to come," so I ended up seeing it a second time that day.

When I saw King Of Kong at the local art theatre, it was a little after it's initial release, because the DVD had just come out. I loved the movie so much I went out and bought the DVD the next day and watched it again.

I did it with Kill Bill Vol 1 & Sin City. Immediately bought tickets for their next showings.

Not recently but I did watch all 6 hours of the original The Stand miniseries. Then turned around and watched all 6 hours again with the director’s commentary on.

Last year I saw Top Gun Maverick on a special Tuesday early screening in IMAX and then on Friday of the same week I saw it again in Dolby.

Yeah, I sometimes do this, especially if a film is complex and I think I missed stuff the first time.

I saw Super 8 (2011) in the theater twice in 24 hours (midnight show and a matinee the next day). Same with Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) and The Dark Knight (2012),

My record is watching Out Cold (2001) four times in one day. People kept coming over and we kept rewatching it.

Use to do it all the time. I'd even sit and watch it in theater and then stay and watch it again right then and there. Scarface, Dawn of the Dead and Halloween saw in theater and told friends about it and went again the next day with the people I'd told about it.

I do it a lot with movies i’ve just bought and will with Soiderverse soon i’m sure.

The only time i’ve ever gone back to back screenings was avengers endgame on opening night. originally i was going to go alone but then my son’s schedule cleared up and we were able to go to an earlier show together at a better theatre closer to him. The AMC website gave me error messages for 15 minutes when trying to cancel my solo showing so after i watched it all with my kid and i dropped him off at his moms i
Spoiler:
went to the second showing just until Thanos’ head was cut off and it fades to black. I said “Nice”and walked out. I don’t know that the people next to or behind me noticed but i like to think i have them an amusing memory from when they saw it.

Not in the way you mean, but I just finished rereading King's It so have watched the miniseries once, and again w/commentary, plus Pennywise Making Of twice in as many months, plus It (2017) and bonus features. Still have It part 2 to go.

I don't think I've ever seen the same movie more than once in a year. Some I watch every single year, but no more than once each time.

No. Never. There may be a handful I enjoy enough to eventually rewatch but not immediately.

Re: Ever watch a newer movie back to back?

Never back to back, but when KILL BILL, VOL. 1 came out, I saw it four times during its initial run in the course of a week or two. That's the closest.

Of course when I was young we used to stay in the movies all day and see films over including both films in a double feature. But that was in the 1960s and early '70s.

I’m sorry. I assume it was some sort of Military deprogramming technique à la A Clockwork Orange that was being done to you?

Anyway, I’m glad you escaped.

I was 18 and it was the first Star Wars film I was able to see in theaters. Between the overnight to get tickets and the craziness of the theater for all three showings, it was a complete blast.

Re: Ever watch a newer movie back to back?

I am pretty sure I saw Star Wars episodes 1 and 2 at least once, maybe twice, a day for the first 3 days or something like that, depending on who wanted to go.

My friend and I walked out of South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut and had such a good time we truly considered walking right back in for the late show. We ended up seeing something else (maybe The Astronaut's Wife?) instead.

I’ve been in the projection booth through 6 showings of some movies.

May 1980

My family saw "The Empire Strikes Back" on opening weekend.

When it ended, my mom, brother and I stood up to leave but my dad said "Sit down."

We sat and sat... until the movie started up again and we settled in for another two hours.

I saw Star Wars 6 times over 2 days when it first came out when I was 14. That’s the only one I remember.

Done this with a few films but nothing new.

Re: Ever watch a newer movie back to back?

When I was younger I would commonly watch big new releases twice opening weekend, but only because I would go see them as soon as they were released Thursday/Friday - and then see it with family or friends during the weekend.

Aside from that, never back to back, but I did see The Dark Knight rises at 3AM, went home, took a nap and saw it again at 12PM - and the just for good measure saw it the next morning.
