But if this rumor is true, why is she playing hard ball? This movie series was her only real claim to fame and success.

I don't blame him for bailing. Just bad press surrounding the movie and the studio. Too bad he did great work with Freaky and the Happy Death Day movies and it would have been interesting to see what he could have done here.

Hopefully he instead manages to make that third Happy Death Day movie he's been wanting to make.
That's all on Jason Blum. Blum is still sore that the second one "bombed" compared to the first one. |

I stand by what I wrote. He was annoying and I was happy to see him die in Scream 2. His cameo in Scream 3 was just one more reason to hate that movie.

Seriously, the whole franchise collapses without him. He knows horror movies, he explains the rules and understands the tropes. Sydney and Gayle have no clue about any of this stuff. The whole self-aware premise of the series is predicated on Randy's exposition.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
Maybe the next movie, if they make one, can be about killing a franchise. To be honest, the ending of 6 was so far out there that it made me shake my head at the implausibility of even culminating in the way it did. Just do 7 with a whole next cast and end the franchise in one go.

You know why Landon may have quit the movie. Because he has to deal with stupid toxic fans like this who don’t read.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
I doubt it's mean comments that gave him cold feet as much as an unfinished script tossed in the bin after the lead was fired.
I think the same writers are still on board. If they threw enough money at Neve and teased Stu's return that would generate excitement. I'd like to see someone who can put together a genuinely suspenseful film with some unexpected twists, likeable memorable characters, with fun horror references stirred in. |
re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
The series will come back at some point with no problems. 4 came out years after 3, 5 came out years after 4. Whoever the next nerd character is will make some meta comments about how “franchises have plans lined up years in advance now, but they can get derailed by real life circumstances. They keep the characters alive but away from the action, leaving the door open for them to come back later.”

Re: Scream 7 (D: ?)
Neve is back and Kevin Williamson is directing.
Neve Campbell has come out on her social media platforms today she is back as Sidney Prescott. In an instragram post she said its been asked back and is happy to return. Hi All. I’m so excited to announce this news!!! Sidney Prescott is coming back!!!! It’s always been such a blast and an honor to get to play Sidney in the Scream movies. My appreciation for these films and for what they have meant to me, has never waned. I’m very happy and proud to say I’ve been asked, in the most respectful way, to bring Sidney back to the screen and I couldn’t be more thrilled!!! Well actually I could. While I’ve been so incredibly lucky to make these films with both the master of horror Wes Craven and the wonderfully talented Matt and Tyler team, I’ve dreamt for many years of how amazing it would be to make one of these movies with Kevin Williamson at the helm. And now it’s happening, Kevin Williamson is going to direct Scream 7! This was his baby and it’s his brilliant mind that dreamt up this world. Kevin is not just an inspiration as an artist but has been a dear friend for many years. To the amazing Scream fans, I hope you are as excited as I am. See you on set @kevwilliamson https://pbs.twimg.com/media/GIfS7dhW...jpg&name=large |

As expected on her post, her fans are mostly elated. But, Melissa Barrera supporters think she’s selling out.

Of course they do, they'd think that about anyone that joined the movie. It's what fans do.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
Can’t wait to hear what the title will be.

I mean, it is a 4 letter word.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
This feels like the only move the producers could make to wash away the stink of all of the Barrera/Ortega drama. Interesting that Williamson is being brought on as director only and won't have a hand in the screenplay. I'm sure his voice will come through in the final film, but it's not like Kevin Williamson is this well respected director or anything.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
I like how the script says "Untitled Scream 7" -- but the official title will most likely be Scream 7
Because they lack creativity and continuity with the title formatting. |
re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
Or it will be called Sc7eam
Because that's what passes for creativity these days. |
re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
New THR piece about the Barrera firing, with quotes from Radio Silence:
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/mo...ip-1235860455/ Radio Silence had intended to revive the Scream franchise with a trilogy focused on Barrera and Ortega’s characters, and believed Abigail could work before a seventh installment, but according to the pair, Spyglass hoped to get the ball rolling sooner than their schedules allowed. “We got exited,” Gillett says, which Bettinelli-Olpin then repeats verbatim with a laugh. Bettinelli-Olpin adds, “We’ll be sad that there’s not going to be an end to the Sam Carpenter story, but in our minds, we designed Scream VI so that the story feels complete.” Regarding Landon walking away, Bettinelli-Olpin shares that he and Gillett “reached out to Chris and just commiserated a little bit.” Barrera herself says about Landon’s departure, “I actually don’t know what happened. He was very excited about it, and he had great ideas for it, so it makes me sad.” Neve Campbell announced she would not appear in the sixth film because of pay equity issues. So it came as a shock when Campbell announced in early March that she would return for Scream VII. The move put the project back on track after months on life support following Barrera’s firing and the subsequent exit of director Landon, as well as the quiet departure of Jenna Ortega in the spring of last year. Barrera’s supporters on social media saw Campbell’s return as a betrayal. (Campbell’s reps did not respond to a request for comment.) When asked if she and Campbell had spoken about her return, Barrera pauses before declining to answer. |
re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
Courteney Cox may be heading back to the “Scream” franchise, as sources tell Variety she is in talks to reprise the role of Gale Weathers in the seventh movie of the slasher series, to be directed by “Scream” creator and writer Kevin Williamson. The news comes about two weeks after Neve Campbell announced she was coming back as Sidney Prescott after the actor sat out of “Scream 6” due to a salary dispute. There's been talk that Dempsey is coming back too. |
re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
What a trainwreck. I've been a longtime Scream fan but I didn't enjoy the last two sequels very much, the writing just seemed so low-effort. The way the studio has mistreated the stars and franchise as a whole has sapped my enthusiasm for a seventh installment. What a mistake it was to revive this series after Craven's passing.

re: Scream 7 (2026, D: Williamson)
I thought Scream 5 was near unwatchable, so I haven't gotten up the nerve to try Scream 6 yet. I think they have squeezed all the blood out of this turnip at this point.
And I do not see why directors, producers, stars, writers, etc. feel the need to personally respond to various idiot fans. They do not owe them a response. If the information is truly important to get out there, let the studio release a press statement and be done with it. Fuck these rabid, annoying fans. You won't lose their ticket. They will see whatever is released just so they can bitch about it as usual. |
