Thinking about this a little more, my reaction to the movie might have as much to do with summer movie fatigue than anything. (It's still an hour too long, damnit!) I understand the reasons for the "movie seasons" but as someone who goes to the theater regularly, I just wish we could redistribute the schedule so that we could get a little more variety in the theaters throughout the calendar year. Too many movies in a row that are doing the same things. If I had seen Dead Reckoning in March or April, I might have been way more excited about it.

It didn't help there were similar action set pieces in other summer movies this year, Fast X (car chase through Rome) and Indy (train sequence and car chase through Tangier). So watching it felt very deja-vu.
After watching Fallout last night, I agree with everyone that they really did Ilsa dirty this in this movie.

I saw an interview with Hayley Atwell on CBS yesterday and she said they are about 30% done with Part 2. And they will go back to work once they finish the press tour. But, that will probably come to a screeching halt at Midnight tonight.

I just thought of something. Maybe Ferguson asked to be written out of Mission Impossible due to her commitments to Silo, which she is also EP for. I don't know that for a fact, just trying to make an educated guess.
I read season 1 for Silo started production in August 2021, which I think coincided with the time this movie was still in production. It did feel like Ilsa's appearances in here were somewhat limited. And season 2 has already started filming as of last month.

I pretty much expected someone to die anyway, its a Part I of II movie, its practically a rule. Lose someone, lose the battle, or both.

One random moment that stuck with me - I thought it was nice that both Ilsa and Ethan had never been to Venice. I always just assume these spies have literally been everywhere. I don't know, it was a nice moment that was a little unexpected.

While the film is technically competent, its also bloated, obnoxious, and filled with every tired action film set piece ever created. The threat is laughable and for what little the film accomplished plus he fit had no business being split in two. Cut 20 mins out of the awful first half, add another 45 mins to the end and wrap it up in a single film.

I was glad they didn't kill off the Pom Klementieff character at the end ("She still has a pulse!").
I'm guessing she returns in Part 2 to enact revenge against the Esai Morales character, who tried to terminate her because the Entity warned him she was going to betray him.

McQuarrie said they are already taking about ideas for more and Cruise says he wants to be like Harrison Ford and do these films until he’s 80. It’s not the going to be the end.

I saw it on Tuesday night and really enjoyed it. I haven’t seen Fast X or John Wick 4, so maybe that explains my poor judgment.
I was just complaining to someone how the new Little Mermaid felt so long. This one I knew was long, but it didn’t feel that way because it was a steady stream of fun set pieces. Maybe it could’ve used one fewer train car (which totally made me think of Uncharted, as was mentioned earlier), or a couple fewer cuts to Ethan chasing the train.
Hayley Atwell seems to have been around forever, so when she first appeared, I thought “Is that Hayley Atwell? She looks too young.” Turns out she’s 41, two years older than Rebecca Ferguson, who’s showing a bit of age in her face. (Still love her, though.)
Speaking of Ferguson, NOOOOOOOOOOO.
That was my least-favorite part of the movie, though I won’t downgrade it for that. I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if she asked out because of all her other work. It’ll be interesting if they ever talk about that. Not sure why outcastja said that was doing her dirty, though. At least they gave her a heroic death. But when they were saying either Grace or Ilsa had to die, I was saying “You just met Grace! Kill HER!”
Maybe my other least-favorite part was the digital-entity villain. It’s different, but seemed a bit too out there for me.
A few dozen people were at the 5:30 showing at my local LIEMAX.
Did it have to be two movies? I think we’ll have to see how the second one turns out.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny was almost joined by Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning in de-aging its lead for its opening set-piece.
"Originally, there had been a whole sequence at the beginning of the movie that was going to take place in 1989, director Chris McQuarrie tells GamesRadar+ and Total Film. "We talked about it as a cold open, we talked about it as flashbacks in the movie, we looked at de-aging."
It was the de-aging process, though, that proved to be the sticking point for a franchise that so often preaches believability over any sort of digital shortcuts.
"One of the big things about [the de-aging] I was looking at while researching, I kept saying, 'Boy, this de-aging is really good' or 'This de-aging is not so good.' Never did I find myself actually following the story," McQuarrie says of the work put into the scrapped sequence.
On Cruises look in the scene, he reveals, "I was so distracted by an actor that I had known for however long was now suddenly this young person."
McQuarrie adds, however, that despite the reservations he may have found a way to introduce de-aging in his future movies.
"In researching that, I cracked the code I think on how best to approach it," McQuarrie explains. "By then, we had kind of moved away from it. We may still play with it. We never say never."
Cruise, now 61, is doing just fine: Dead Reckoning Part Two is out in cinemas next year, while a movie in outer space with director Doug Liman is still on the celestial cards.

In the flasback scenes, Esai Morales looked great and they didn't CGI de-age him either. I think they just dyed his hair and facial hair black. Maybe added some more base make-up to to fill in the wrinkles. That's what they usually do.

Yeah as I said earlier, Atwell said they've shot about 30% of 8. If this strike drags on for a few months into the Fall, it will likely not make it's premiere next summer. 70% more to shoot, plus re-shoots and post production. They got a long way to go.
