I just got back from seeing it in IMAX. I thought it was great. Beautifully filmed and spectacular set pieces. Amazing special effects. Looks spectacular in IMAX. I resonated with the characters, especially Washington and the young actress who played "Alphie" It hit all the right emotional heart strings for me. It had a little bit of Blade Runner, Terminator/Aliens and Apocalypse Now. Great work by Edwards and whoever was the location manager. I read a lot of it was filmed in Thailand.
There was a short introduction by Edwards in the beginning thanking everyone for attending this early screening. And they also gave out a poster. Probably one of my favorite science fiction films of the last few years. Totally worth seeing in the theater. And I will dare say it. I thought this was better than Dune. Just my personal opinion.
This reportedly only cost $80M to make. If that's accurate, that is some really impressive and fiscally responsible filmmaking by Edwards and his team.
This gets an A- from me. A really great film.

I saw this in IMax on the 28th. I got some collectible movie ticket. I thought it was okay. solid B. I liked Dune (part 1) a lot better.

I'm hesitant about going to see this because I'm worried the whole movie is going to be a huge bummer. I was tears-pouring-down-my-face crying during all the animal stuff in Guardians 3, and I have little desire to revisit A.I. because the movie is relentlessly cruel to the robot they get you to sympathize with. For anyone who sees it, I'd like to know how you think The Creator compares to those two in terms of emotional manipulation.

Did you see Rogue One? If so, did it make you emotional?

I didn't care for this much at all. My reaction when it was over was "meh, what was that?".
I thought it was very uneven. Pretty much just battles and running in the first hour and half. The characters didn't seem to care that much about each other (except for the main guy with his wife). And then the last half hour was all over the place, with a whole lot of "how the heck did they know where that was, or how the heck did they know how to do that". Similar to what DaveNinja mentioned, I felt nothing for any of the characters or the story.

Watched this last night and thought it was awesome. It the had the right balance of world-building that other sci-fi films tend to overlook. Parts of New Asia looked like they came right out of Night City from the Cyberpunk 2077 video game.
It's crappy that it will probably bomb. It only made 14 million opening weekend and will be losing the premium screens after today.

This looks interesting. If I could get past my dislike for Denzel’s son as an actor, I would probably see it.

This just posted today and features the proof of concept footage Edwards shot to get the studio to give him the 80 million for the budget. Holy shit, looks phenomenal and am hoping it's on the 4K disc package :

Edwards is a hell of a director. He always has great visuals and what he did with this budget was exceptional. But the script isn't great and I came away just thinking it was dull.

Yeah, this movie looks great, and it makes you wonder if this was made for $80 million, what are studios like Marvel spending $200-300 million on? There wasn't a second of this that didn't look or feel realistic. The tank assault sequence in particular looked great.
Alfie and the kid playing her was great, and Washington was just OK. The story was a bit rough though. I felt like aside from using the term "A.I." a lot, it didn't really offer much that was new that hadn't already been tread in other "sentient robot rights" films like I, Robot or Chappie or A.I.
I also didn't love the concept of NOMAD. Aside from being impractical, it also seemed to be nonsensical, as it appeared to be little more than a sub-orbital guided missile platform, which can be achieved much more efficiently and just as accurately with the laser or satellite guided missiles and bombs we use today. It seemed to exist only to give them a "Death Star"-type objective to overcome.

Wife was hosting a meeting the other day and I had to get out of the house, so I figured The Creator might be something I could see by myself.
I thought it was pretty good, better than I expected. As WSB mentioned, the world-building was good and might’ve been my favorite part of it. I don’t think I need to see it again, but if I did, I think the wife wouldn’t mind watching it too.

Saw this over the weekend and my thoughts are that this is not about AI at all, but rather an allegory for/scathing criticism of US foreign policy, military industrial complex, and interventionism. The robots are very much not at all like what real AI will look like, in the sense that have more or less all the capabilities and weaknesses of humans.
- They have a monotheistic religion that Westerners don't have much insight into
- They didn't actually do anything to the West, beyond defend themselves
- In fact, it was Americans' mucking about that came back to bit them in the ass
- America stakes the war on a silver bullet of technological superiority, but even with it, their manhunt has been going on 10 years (and there's a night raid that goes after enemy #1)
- There's a constant other-ing of them as being incompatible with Western society
- Note the "us army" tag on the tank in the village raid: all lower-case, blue, similar font and look to MANY tech companies, implying greater corporate partnerships and possible privatization

It was a more engaging trailer than the movie turned out to be. I enjoyed it but was checking the remaining time more than once in the last hour. Doubtful I'll watch again.

They need to give the live- action Akira to Edwards.
He is the only one that can do it justice.
This film was absolutely magnificent.
