With the money they spent on the Harbour version and this one, they could have given GDT the money for his 3rd film.

I think I'm Hellboy'd out. Just not an IP that I really care that much about at this point.

I didn't mind the David Harbour version from 2019, but too bad it was a flop.

That looks really cheap and horrible.

Yeah, that looks awful. Is this releasing theatrically or going straight to physical media/streaming? Either way I don’t have interest and like mentioned earlier it’s too bad with the money spent on this and the 2019 film that del Toro and Perlman didn’t get a shot at doing another.

At least it looks like they’re trying something somewhat new with the story and look.

I never saw the David Harbour movie but as much as I enjoyed Ron Perlman in the role, the first 2 Hellboy movies weren’t exactly masterpieces.

The first film was severely hobbled by the audience surrogate/new agent character, but the second was highly enjoyable simply for being so goddamn weird.

I liked the David Harbour Hellboy; and I'll check this one out too. I'm sure it'll be entertaining.

Yall speak of the Hellboy films as if they are serious "Sin-ee-Mah". The truth is the OG films were good, and I enjoyed them, but they're not life changing High Art. So just sit back and enjoy them for what they are.

I enjoy plenty of leave-your-brain-at-the-door movies. I’m certainly not a film snob when it comes to popcorn flicks. The first two Hellboy movies should have been entertaining fun - all the elements were there - they just…weren’t.

And Universal fucked it up by releasing it 1 week before TDK.

Meh

Before I watch the trailer, anyone else think that looks like Jamie Kennedy as Hellboy?

I don’t find them to be high art whatsoever. Simply that del Toro is a good director and Perlman was a good Hellboy.

Well, at least it looks completely different from the other films.

Looks more like the next installment in the Conjuring universe, not the Hellboy universe.

I’m down for a change in tone. No more steampunk Nazis is fine with me.

I actually dug the tone in the first teaser but now in the new SDCC trailer, with the Asian chick, turned me off. She's annoying as hell. I'll rent it.

This was so much better than I expected. I thought I was going to hate this one. But taking away all the big budget Hollywood bloat really helped. The movie had an interesting story, decent action, creepy horror atmosphere, and a few laugh out loud moments. And while the CGI & green screen effects looked cheap, the practical effects and sets were well done. To me, this felt like a good SyFy Channel movie. If this was the pilot movie for a TV series, I would watch the show. It's worth checking out. Just don't expect too much, and you might really enjoy it.

Re: Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024, D: Taylor) - another reboot

Found this on Hulu last night. I'll echo The Big Dave . . .

Not great, but not as bad as many panned it to be. It was rather amateurish in some of the filmmaking, but I'm sure the budget really hobbled that. Right from the get-go you tell the director (the "Taylor" from Crank's Neveldine and Taylor) was aping The Evil Dead.

There are some spots that it shines, mainly due to some of the supporting actors. Kesey was rather bland though. He wasn't bad, but did not have any of the swagger or panache of his predecessors. Maybe it was a physicality thing, but he had no screen presence.

Looked up the cast out of curiosity . . . Holy crap, that was Geoffrey from The Fresh Prince!?
