I... can't disagree.

I've always thought that the individual MCU movies weren't particularly good -- they were, for the most part, pretty average -- but I admired that they actually pulled off a shared universe.

But post-Endgame, they feel a lot of like how Disney/Lucasfilm are handling Star Wars -- just churning out a bunch of half-assed, poorly developed content. The Disney+ Marvel series have, for the most part, been forgettable, and the movies seem to be uninspired and don't seem to serve much purpose in the greater MCU, which is itself in a rebuilding phase after losing RDJ, Pine, and Boseman.

With Scream VI, 65 out this week along with Creed III having a great 1st week and likely getting some new and repeat eyes, this is going to sink even further. Hard to believe a big "event" MCU movie is having such a collapse after a pretty good 1st week.

I agree. While superheroes are becoming fairly commonplace, the reactions from family and friends is either 100% immediate acceptance or completely ignored.

My son is home for spring break so I took him to see the movie last night. The second viewing for me was even better - I really enjoyed what they did with MODOK. I love when these movies lean into how ridiculous comics can be (and as a comics fan myself, I love seeing them take the piss out of those fans who seem to think every comic decision is sacrosanct and mustn't be touched. Sometimes things are just REALLY silly.) I also appreciated how threatening Kang really is and I look forward to seeing him and the Council as the big bads going forward. Especially excited for Secret Wars, as that's my favorite Marvel comic story of all time.

Re: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023, D: Reed) -- S: Rudd, Majors -- The Spoiler Reviews Thread

Oof. This thing will probably tap out at $470 million worldwide, which would place it somewhere between the first Thor and Ant-Man movies in unadjusted dollars. And that's at twice the budget of those films.

Which makes it a big money-loser for Disney/Marvel; it won't out-gross the last Ant-Man film domestically and will be the lowest grossing of the franchise worldwide,

Definitely an inauspicious beginning to Phase V. I don't think The Marvels is going to do much better (if at all) and Guardians Vol. 3 will do well but it's a swan song.

No Disney plus release yet. You’ll need to buy it if you really want to see it. Comes out tomorrow for sale.

Holy shit did this suck. I thought it was an afterthought in the Star Wars Universe, not the MCU. Fuck what a waste of talent and my fucking money.

I had a blast watching this!
I went in expecting it to be some huge disaster but it was just the opposite. I really do not get the hate for it. I thought this was every minute as fun the first two and liked it way more than the last Doctor Strange. A shame it didn't do better at the box office.

I will say on second viewing (had to get my monies worth), it was a lot better. Definitely better than Thor 4, BW, Doctor Strange 2, Wakanda Forever. But there were some of the most downright silliness than we have seen in a Marvel movie.

The whole MODOK thing was a bizarre, unnecessary addition. I mean was Corey Stoll even in the credits? I didn’t see him and yet he had a decent part. I dunno. And, for an ultimate killing machine, he didn’t kill one thing in this that I remember. And Lily’s hairdo is downright bizarre. It’s almost like the whole Felicity fiasco. But seriously, she looked like a boy. Terrible.

But, it had its moments and Majors is just such a powerful presence on screen. Good choice for the big baddie. More fun than recent Marvel output. That is for sure.

3.5 stars.

Definitely better than Wakanda Forever? I think not.
Actually I could be talked into thinking that this film was worse than all those other ones mentioned. In all the others there was at least one thing I liked (BW :Florence Pugh, David Harbor, the Prauge car chase), (DS2 : Elizabeth Olson, the Illuminati council scene), (WF : Angela Bassett, Namor), (Thor4 : Christian Bale). This one had nothing that I can even think of, not a single performance that I enjoyed.

FWIW, the haircut is supposed to be a direct reference to the comics.

This is some saga, there are more twists than the actual movie. :
