Re: Canceled movies you really wanted to see?

Not quite "canceled," but the only things I can think of right now off the top of my head:

Sergio Leone was supposed to do a war movie, "Leningrad: The 900 Days." Don't remember if the project was aborted or he died before he could make it.

Greta Garbo was supposed to do a movie in Paris in the late 1940s with a famous director whom I can't recall now and she even went to Paris for costume fittings, but the project got derailed.

Would have loved to see the Ava DuVernay New Gods film. And while Spielberg's vision is one of my top 5 films probably, it'd be amazing to peak into another timeline and see John Carpenter's Jurassic Park.

I've never gotten into the Jump Street franchise, but it's hard to accept how poorly the MiB franchise has been used. It can crossover with so many things so easily.

Another vote for Batgirl. It's really absurd it can be so close to completion and just get canned like that.

It was started. Paul Giamatti was cast as Elvis and it was going to be a prequel. Then, nothing.

Giamatti was going to be Col. Parker, and Ron Pearlman was replace Bruce Campbell as Elvis.

My bad. It's been a long time so my memory is kinda hazy.

Tim Burton was supposedly going to adapt the novel Geek Love, but nothing has ever come of that.

Interesting. I never actually followed up on the mentioned sequel, and somehow missed any articles about it. I can kinda see Campbell's point about the interwoven storylines, although I can also see how it could work out if there wasn't too much jumping around. Regardless, without Campbell's involvement as old Elvis, I'm sure my interest wouldn't have been very high.

Re: Canceled movies you really wanted to see?

Wasn't there an Alien movie that was being talked about that would have Sigourney Weaver and be a sequel to the second movie and ignore 3 and 4? I'd like to see that.

I'm still skeptical it gets made, so I'll say Kill Bill 3

Also the Vega Brothers

You could make an entire thread about Tarantino movies that will never happen.

Fair enough

I thought of a couple more.

Darren Aronofsky's Batman movie and Ridley Scott was supposed to make an adaptation of Blood Meridian

Re: Canceled movies you really wanted to see?

Would have liked to see the other books after Interview with the Vampire adapted with the same team (Cruise, Pitt, Neil Jordan, etc.). It seemed like that was the intention at the time. Not sure if they ever had talks to do that. I guess it didn't do well enough so we ended up with the Queen of the Damned that we got.

Does the "The Day the Clown Cried" count? It was made but never released and only seen by a few people.

I would have liked to have seen "The Splinter of the Mind's Eye" adapted as a cheap sequel to Star Wars if it didn't do well.

Did anyone mention James Cameron's Spider-man yet? Also, Raimi's fourth Spider-man movie.

Rainbow Six… As far as I can tell, doesn’t seem to be moving forward after Without Remorse

Although not cancelled, since it will be released long after I'm dead, I'm curious to see 100 Years.

Given how much Without Remorse sucked (a total waste of Michael B. Jordan, the character, and Guy Pearce), I'm okay with their taking more time before they make Rainbow Six.

Not just a single abbreviated 90-minute movie, but one that had very little to actually do with the Dark Tower series. Seriously, WTF X 2 ?!

I'd also like to have seen the original concept for The Godfather: Part III that would have pitted Tom Hagen against Michael Corleone.

Re: Canceled movies you really wanted to see?

The Robert Zemeckis adaptation of Nicholson Baker's The Fermata, with a script by Neil Gaiman. A really intriguing mix of talent, esp. given the somewhat risque premise of the book. A number of script drafts were apparently completed by Gaiman but it never took off. Around 2014, there was also talk of a Zemeckis-produced series instead but that also disappeared into the ether.
