My disc set has officially shipped from Amazon JP. Looks like it will be over a week before it arrives.

They don't. I've been watching un-dubbed content from Japan since I was a kid downloading DBZ episodes before they were translated. I won't understand everything, but I can understand enough to get the overall idea. Better than not having it at all.

To anyone who has seen it, how much is Godzilla in this?
reviews hinted that it’s not all that much.
2 hour movie.

12 minutes. The amount of minutes doesn’t equate to the impact and presence.

Yeah, this isn't like 2014 Godzilla, where his 8+ minutes of screen time felt wasted. His scenes in Godzilla: Minus One all feel impactful. And, yet, even without Big G, the rest of the movie is engrossing.

I noticed there’s an “orthochromatic” re-release of SHIN GODZILLA available on Blu-ray from Japan now (no subs, of course).

I assume this was in response to the b&w version of MINUS ONE? Or has this b&w version of SHIN been available previously?

Your post also prompted me to check its streaming status. It originally streamed on Funimation (site no longer exists & BD was released by them). It streamed on Crunchyroll starting December 16, 2022. It's no longer streaming on Crunchyroll https://www.crunchyroll.com/shin-godzilla. It was still streaming in April, so it likely was removed at end of the month. It's likely their streaming rights expired. It remains to be seen if they still have the home video rights. If/when the Crunchyroll license expire and Funimation BDs go out of print, it's unclear if Toho will allow the film be licensed again right away. Toho has been weird about license renewals with their anime films recently. If it gets licensed by someone else in the future, it may bring eventual opportunities for 4K UHD and B&W version.

so, my cheapie $6 theater down the street had this playing and i was like there is no way in hell i want to go to a cheapie theater even though i wanted to see it so bad. but, i went!!!!
Holy shit was this film amazing. i mean it was art really. it looked spectacular. nothing like the old Godzilla cheapies i used to see as a kid. this was story driven and focused much more on the conflicted kamikaze pilot than the monster. this was such a grand achievement in every way. but, the aftermath is like something you'd see with earthquakes in our country. the people/citizens then fighting for a cause and coming together after the horrors of WWII was nothing more than spectacular.
one of the best movies, definitely top 5 of 2023 or me. the acting was phenomenal. nothing stiff. everything looked genuine. even Godzilla looked like a real flesh and blood creature. nothing like the CGI fests we got going today.
i was literally gasping for air and then when it went silent for that short portion in the end i was literally on the edge of my seat. really the whole movie my heart was racing and on the edge of my seat.
this deserves all the accolades, the Oscar, everything. this was so grand. i loved everything about it. and that end, just tear inducing. i loved this movie and physical release (which of course i would buy the grandish edition out there) or not, i saw it and i loved this freaking movie.

Toho had the movie pulled from all theaters. If anyone is actually showing it (not sure how), then they are showing it illegally.
It's not playing anywhere in the world right now, not even Japan, because Godzilla x Kong has exclusivity now.
