Really enjoyed this! It's amazing how just simple, straightforward and competent filmmaking can be so refreshing.

I just got back from the IMAX showing tonight. They gave out this exclusive IMAX poster that’s dated tonight. It was awesome. Solid creature design, pretty harrowing destruction and battle sequences. And characters who you’re actually rooting for and care about. Like he said ^^ competent filmmaking. Toho did a really good job on this. If this is playing near you and happens to be available on a premium screen, try to catch it. Support an international event film like this. Premium screens are kind of limited depending on where you live. However it’s getting shafted in my area for premium screens by the Renaissance concert movie. Glad I went tonight. Was not expecting an exclusive poster for this. I was in Tokyo last month and this opened a week after I left. I would have loved to have seen and heard fan reactions in a packed Tokyo movie theater.

After seeing this, I can never watch 1998 Godzilla again. I donít own it. This movie is a masterpiece compared to that turd.

Tananarive Due really liked it. I am down

That is an awesome poster. Supposedly it'll be in PR on 12/7 but no showings are listed.

According to JustWatch, it's on Crunchyroll.

First one for me (I am a print collector and these are very nice) - are they all usually 11x17? I have some hard shell 11x17 protectors I may have to bring next time, lol. I'd much rather be able to pick them up on my way out of the screening, but I was able to set them down on the seat next to me during the show.

I saw it this evening. There were no real surprises and it plays out pretty much exactly like you expect it to, but I thought it was well done and told the story just fine. Thumbs up from me.

I saw it tonight. I thought it was FANTASTIC. Not just the best Godzilla movie, but one of the best films of 2023. A huge surprise, and a pleasant one. Hope this gets the 4k treatment on disc.

Also, my showing and the following showing were almost full, something I have not seen since Opp/Barbie. Hope this has legs.

^Yeah, it sucks that my local theater doesn't have this on it's big screen because of the Beyonce movie.

Simply solution to Godzilla Minus One FOMO for those with kids, busy schedules. Call in sick to work, sneak away to the theater for a solo matinee and don’t let your family know. 🤫

I might actually see this again next week. It was that good.

I saw a few comments from people who are hesitant to see this. One because he said he reads slow and was worried he would get lost trying to keep up. One said he was visually impaired even with glasses.

re: Godzilla Minus One (2023) Update: LEGAL Digital/VOD Release!

I'll say upfront that I have only seen two Godzilla movies in my life, the original and the MST3K version of Godzilla vs Megalon. I have no knowledge of or attachment to the franchise whatsoever, but I decided to check this out because it was playing at a convenient time and place and I was intrigued by the good reviews.

That said, I really liked this. I mostly don't care about Godzilla smashing things, which is probably why I haven't watched any of the other movies, but I was hooked by the human drama. It can be a bit manipulative, and I could see all the last act narrative twists and turns coming from about 100 miles away, but I happily ate it all up. Ryunosuke Kamiki was fantastic and I think the thing that I appreciated the most about the movie, was that it's all played completely straight. One of my biggest gripes with the Marvelization of Hollywood is that most big franchise movies have a thick layer of irony that can be fun at times, but becomes so very tiresome when that's the only tone anyone knows how to do. This reminded me more of something from the 80's or 90's. It's earnest and sincere and melodramatic and sometimes that's ok. Hollywood should take note.

Youíre probably an ideal candidate to watch the ALWAYS SUNSET ON THIRD STREET trilogy. Just sayiní.

Caught this today and agree with everyone else. Great movie. One could remove Godzilla from the movie and still have a human drama that could keep the audience interested. That being said, I still thought the Godzilla action kicked all kinds of a$$, especially the first time he fires up his beam in Ginza!

That's kind of staggering if only $15 million. Haven't seen it yet but saying that just from what I've seen in the trailer.

That is for USD only, I'm sure for a Japanese production it's a bit more than usual. That being said, Hollywood really does need to take some notes from this movie. It's a bit ridiculous that studios make something that looks and feels inferior to this but costs about $200 million.

Saw it today, not IMAX, but every seat was sold out at my showing. Incredibly human story, with Godzilla primary acting as a plot device that drives the story forward.

Definitely the best written Godzilla film I have ever scene. Best foreign film nominee? That would be awesome.

Anyone know if the release has been extended? Last I heard it was ending this week already. That would be a shame.

It's over 2 billion Japanese Yen. Probably a huge budget for that market.

That ship has already sailed. Win Wenders' Perfect Days is Japan's submission for international feature this year

Ah, the noted Japanese director Wim WendersÖ itís so stupid they still allow only one movie submitted per country. So limiting and America-centric.
