The Island (1980) From Peter Benchley's novel starring Michael Cain and the late David Warner. Rent it some years ago and enjoyed it.

Re: Your favorite pirate movies?

I'm going to throw Treasure Planet in there as a pirate movie that hasn't been mentioned.

And despite the OP's opinion I still think the first Pirate's of the Caribbean was a fine pirate movie. The rest were a hot mess but the first still holds up.

I don't think I've ever watched a pirate movie outside of the Pirates of the Caribbean flicks.

It's not really a genre that interests me for some reason.

I did watch Black Sails, though.

Same here actually. I’ve only seen the first two or three Pirates of the Caribbean films. Never got that into the series. Haven’t seen Black Sails either but I’ve heard good things about it (outside of this thread).

The longest I’ve spent with anything pirate related is Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.

I’m not sure if I’d count The Princess Bride despite Westley being a pirate. Doesn’t exactly feel like a pirate movie.

Agreed. The first one was quite good. The rest? Ugh. I second "The Pirates of Penzance". Kevin Kline and Linda Ronstadt were both fantastic.

I was fond of that one also. I was trying to come up with the name of it when I saw your post and it clicked.

My pre-adolescent lust for Jenny Seagrove in that movie was probably what launched by lifetime infatuation with pasty-faced women with British accents.
