I sure hope this film is about really awful people having to escape from elaborate traps before they die a gruesome and painful death. Fingers crossed.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

What if they change it up and make it about "good" people in elaborate traps. Put the best people through the worst scenario. I'd watch that.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Tickets are now on sale and this opens next week. I’m looking forward to the return of John Kramer.

It’s 118 minutes. The longest theatrical Saw movie. Although 3’s unrated dvd version was 121 minutes.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Apparently this takes place a few weeks after the 1st Saw movie.

But, it's been 19 years since the 1st movie. Tobin Bell has noticeably aged in appearance.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Opens tonight.

Going to try to see it tonight, but if not I will try tomorrow.

I know most here either are not fans of or are completely over this series, so I won't expect much reaction or viewership from here.

But, right now surprisingly it has an 84% on RT

A YouTuber I watch, Cody Leach liked it a lot. Heís not much a fan of the franchise and his channel focuses a lot on horror reviews.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

The last few Saw movies have been meh to terrible.

Saw X was actually a really entertaining Saw movie. Probably the best since Saw II. And that isnít hyperbole. Itís probably Tobin Bellís best performance as Kramer.

It was entirely from the perspective of John Kramer, which I liked and I thought kept it fresh. And I thought it actually humanized him as well. I was rooting for John to get back at the con artists.

However, it does stretch a little credibility being a prequel since Bell has aged significantly since Saw I. And this takes place weeks after the first movie. But overall itís a worthy final chapter to the John Kramer Saw saga.

B+ from me.

By the way, there is a mid-credits scene. It features a cameo from a long running Saw character.

I’ve always liked the Saw franchise. Sans 2. They were always so insane and cringe inducing and illogical. But, that’s why we love ‘em. Can’t wait till it streams.

Saw X is now certified fresh 87% and currently through 1 day of release has a 90% audience score.

It's the best reviewed Saw movie.

Interesting. I would have skipped it. I never really cared for the franchise.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

I was surprised when I went to see this that it was almost 2 hours. It's a pretty different type of film from the rest of the series, but still one of the better entries. It is a bit of stretch to make this feel like it takes place between 1 and 2 if you go back and watch those though.

If they want to continue the franchise, they could bring that kid back, who would be grown up now in his 30s. Link that to the ending of 7 and bring back Elwes the guy from Jigsaw.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

And hard to believe out of 10 movies and 19 years, this was the first one that Tobin Bell was the lead star and protagonist

Here are the previous "protagonists" off the top of my head

Saw 1: Leigh Whannell and Cary Elwes

Saw 2: Donnie Wahlberg

Saw 3: Angus MacFadyen

Saw 4: Lyriq Bent

Saw 5: Scott Patterson

Saw 6: Peter Outerbridge

Saw 3D: Chad Donella (probably the worst lead of the series). Maybe you could say Betsy Russell to an extent.

Jigsaw: Matt Passmore

Spiral: Chris Rock

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Saw this last night.

While it has pacing issues during the tail-end of the film, this might be one of the most enjoyable Saw films in quite a while.

Focusing the near entirety of the film on Tobin Bell was an absolute treat, as the franchise became a bit convoluted with its spiraling series of antagonists during its middle entries.
Spoiler:
I absolutely loved Amanda's return and the film spending so much time with the fabled duo.

Returning to a more simple film (similar to the first 3 entries in the franchise) was also a fantastic choice and different than the approach of later films in the series.

The traps were disgusting and felt fairly in-line with John Kramer working generally with what was available to him (with moderate suspension of belief).

Ya that's a good point, though watching Amanda the way she looked and that horrible hair took me out of it at times lol. John still looked good.

Interesting we didn't see Dr. Gordon or Logan Nelson in this one since they've been working with John at this time. God I hate Jigsaw so much as Logan just randomly popped up out of nowhere. People diss the Chris Rock on, but I feel Jigsaw is much worse.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Will be on digital Friday and physical media on November 21

This has made $71M worldwide on a $13M budget. It’s definitely profitable for Lionsgate. Won’t be surprised if we get a Saw XI greenlit.

They had to get it to VOD before Halloween. Once Nov 1st hits, the people who would want to rent it will plummet.

Re: Saw X (2023, D: Greutert)

Overall I thought it was really well done. The setup took forever and was boring as shit. But once it got going it was good stuff. Some of the traps were fucking gross being based on surgery stuff. I think this might be the Saw path for a bit. Fitting in prequels to when John Kramer was still alive. I figured out the twist a bit before it happened (if you want to call it that, because it wasn't super twist-y). But I almost wish it had gone a different way.

I think a much more interesting way for it to play out would have been if the surgery worked. His cancer was actually cured. But it also caused him to not really fully have his wits about him anymore. Where he goes back to Jigsaw-ing even harder and believing he still has cancer, even tho he is cured. So that it makes the end of Saw 3 that much more impactful. He wouldn't have actually been dying. He just gets killed due to his own game not playing out the way he wanted.

I have always thought what made Saw movies work was the John Kramer character. So will be interesting to see if the do another prequel next or try and stitch together a coherent story with the players left after Jigsaw & Spiral.
