I have no idea. I didn't start the GoFundMe account.

Plus the homeowner has to wait while insurance companies figure things out. She needs money now. I assumed the GFM money would be available sooner.

re: Anne Heche, 53, dies after fiery car accident (2022)

I remember saying Anne Heche was luminous in Men In Trees on the thread for that show on this site, and I just felt that she was a solid actress with some enjoyable to watch shows and films on her resume. It is being reported that she is basically brain dead and the family will take her off of life support as soon as it is determined whether or not any of her organs are viable to be donated (she wanted to be an organ donor).

I think this news has me more emotional than when someone like Betty White passed away, or another film or tv show actor/actress passing away that I grew up watching, the way her life ended is so utterly profoundly sad and heartbreaking. The best I can hope for is that she finds some comfort in the hereafter. My thoughts and prayers go out to her friends and family.

I thought she was really good in that otherwise awful Ashton Kutcher Shampoo rip-off that I can't quite remember the name of.....(checks IMDB) ... Spread.

Looking at her filmography, I’m actually kind of surprised how few movies of hers I’ve seen. I recall her being A LOT more present in movies on the mid-to-late 90s than she actually was, I guess.

The two movies that stick out to me the most are Six Days Seven Nights and Volcano. Neither movie is particularly good but she certainly helped elevate the material (of course, working alongside Tommy Lee Jones and Harrison Ford probably helped too).

Only one I've seen was the Psycho remake.

Sad way to go. I pass through Mar Vista every day to and from work. Glad she didn't kill others though...

I have guilty pleasure memories of Volcano but it’s been ages since I’ve seen it. I think I actually remember slightly preferring the other volcano film that year, Dante’s Peak.

She shined in Return to Paradise, Wag the Dog and Cedar Rapids and I liked her in the HBO series Hung, but I haven't seen her in anything for years. It's a terrible way to die.

Re: Anne Heche, 53, dies after fiery car accident (2022)

I saw her film resume and she has at least 6 projects in the can that will probably be released over the next year. One of them is the yet to premiere The Idol TV series on HBO.

I last saw her on the CBS and now OWN TV show All Rise. She guest starred in the season 3 premiere this summer.

Re: Anne Heche, 53, dies after fiery car accident (2022)

The thing I remember is that she came out as Ellen's lover the same year she got her first big leading lady role opposite Harrison Ford, and there was a lot of talk about whether audiences could believably play in a romance with a man when she was an out lesbian. Of course, there was no concern about the fact that Ford was almost 30 years older than her.

Re: Anne Heche, 53, dies after fiery car accident (2022)

I don't think Heche ever came out. If anything she is Bi. She was in relationships with 2 men who fathered her 2 sons post Ellen breakup. She broke up with her last boyfriend James Tupper 4 years ago after 10 years together.

But yes, she said in an interview that she went to the premiere of her movie Volcano back in 1997 with Ellen as her date and the studio and PR people freaked out and told her to leave.

Here is the ET segment that showed the interview from 2020 where she talks about the incident

RIP. She lived a tumultuous life, but died too soon.

Didn’t she also date Steve Martin back in the day?

Here's part of Ellen's coming out interview with Oprah from April 1997. Anne shows up around two minutes in.

And here's SNL's take on that

Wag the Dog is probably my favorite of her movies. I wish that would get a Blu-ray release. Agreed on Hung and I also watched Men in Trees. She was a really solid actress and could really shine with the right material.

I remember plenty of talk about the age difference, but you're right that the lesbian question loomed larger. It makes you wish that the movie was better. The movie underperforming likely justified their lesbian concerns and led to Heche getting fewer roles - or at least fewer roles with so high a profile. Let's blame the leading lady rather than admit we made a shitty movie.

But much credit to Heche for having the guts to come out. It was pretty unheard of at the time. It's almost difficult to remember what a big deal it was. Her career no doubt took a big hit that it never recovered from while Ellen ended up having continued success. Such a rough life for Heche and such a sad end.

I read somewhere that the Heather Graham character in Bowfinger, written by Steve Martin, was based on Anne Heche.

Well, not quite "dead":

(CNN)One week after a fiery car crash, Anne Heche is "brain dead" but remains on life support, according to a statement from her family and friends shared with CNN by their representative.

Sad ending for her. She may have had her mental issues off camera, but she was a good actress. I have a few of her movies in my collection. The one I just saw recently was "Catfight" with Sandra Oh. It was really good. A black comedy. And she was in a coma in that one...

She's dead in all the ways that matter - they're just trying to keep her heart beating so they can do organ donation.

Or that's an old story.

Edit to add: There's a lot of conflicting information out there.

Brain dead IS dead. Different than a persistent vegetative state (comatose). It's a pronouncement of death, but with organs kept viable by machinery for transplant.
