I like Ghost, so I'm stoked she's back. I also like Bucky. Maybe I shouldn't be in this thread.

Granted it's been a long time since I watched First Avenger, but other than twirl Rocket around on his shoulders during Infinity War, what did Bucky ever do that was cool or interesting? He has an entire movie named after him, but he's barely in it and for the most part his face is covered and he doesn't speak.
Does it matter? Chicks dig the bad boy. Just because you have a hard time justifying his existence, doesn't mean he's not a fan favorite.

I'm just curious why people like him. Is that not a fair question to ask?

I think he's incredible in The Winter Soldier - everything he does is great. The sequence in Civil War that starts in Bucky's apartment is my favorite sequence in any Marvel movie. And I enjoyed his arc in Falcon and the Winter Soldier too. I think he's an interesting character. - he has all the same issues as Cap does (man out of time, government experiments) but he was captured and brainwashed so he doesn't get any of the automatic respect that Cap does...and they are best friends to boot. I love whenever he pops up in the movies.

I seriously have no recollection of Ava/Ghost at all. Like none. Admittedly I did only watch Ant Man & The Wasp once, but still...

I do remember her cool suit. That's something, at least.
The group itself isn't impressive, but perhaps the MCU manages to give some of those characters an actual character in their 2nd appearance.

She had a whole tragic backstory with her parents being killed in the explosion that gave her her powers - Laurence Fishburne's Goliath was trying to help her control her powers instead of her phasing away in pain, which gave her a lot more depth than a typical "bad guy wants to destroy the world" arc. I liked her and am glad we'll get more!

re: Thunderbolts* (2025, D: Schreier)

I find Bucky pretty bland and his situation is difficult to relate to. I think they could use it as a critique of the military industrial complex, but I know they won't explore any larger themes with the guy.

I'm curious if I'll like him more if they put him in charge of a group that has a couple members who are "worse" than he is. Definitely think the Bucky/Taskmaster dynamic should be given a huge focus on the film, since they have the same backstory. Red Guardian and US Agent would be really interesting too, given that they're both disillusioned patriotic heroes clinging onto a imagined glory of representing their respective countries.

Have you seen a MCU movie before? This will be as superficial as possible, with lots of jokes to undermine every scene with any debth.

I typically don't mind the jokes in these movies. I think of the recent stuff, Falcon and Winter Soldier would be the best tone to strike.

I do think that sometimes when they get TOO serious (Iron Man's death), I'm making a certain motion with my hand because it's so overly maudlin.

I do like the humor in the MCU, but I don't mind some seriousness either and I feel the MCU is lacking some depth. Don't end a dramatic moment between Thor and his (dead) mother with a cheap fat joke.

Fabulous. I'm a huge fan since her first appearance in The Bear.

Storm?

I'm expecting them to start sprinkling some X-Men characters into Phase V and Phase VI in preparation for Phase VII.

re: Thunderbolts* (2025, D: Schreier)

EXCLUSIVE: Following his Oscar-nominated role in Minari and scene-stealing part in Nope, Steven Yeun is continuing to show his range as he is now looking to add a Marvel movie to his resume. Sources tell Deadline, Yeun is set to join Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts, in a part that is not only significant to this film but could also play a role going forward in future films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

He joins an ensemble that was announced during Disney’s D23 event last year that includes Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Winter Soldier, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Wyatt Russell as US Agent, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster. Ayo Edebiri also joined the ensemble in an undisclosed role.

The film will bow on July 26, 2024. Marvel had no comment.

Looks like we may know who Steven Yeun is playing, thanks to Robert Kirkman. Spoiler, for sure: https://www.gamesradar.com/steven-ye...irkman-marvel/

Steven Yeun will not be in Thunderbolts. Apparently his "casting" was never even official even though some of the trades reported it.

That makes no sense. Robert Kirkman basically spilled the beans. Why would he say what he said if it wasn't true?

Because Robert Kirkman is not a Marvel/Disney PR person or executive and most likely talked about his friend's job before all the i's dotted and t's crossed. I'm sure he didn't intentionally lie, just got excited.
