The main villain looked and sounded like Tim Cook from Apple and I wonder if that was on purpose. Don’t get the redemption of Dr Henry Wu after he was a major asshole villain in the last 2 movies. Out of nowhere, now he’s a good guy? Also have the same complaint as others mentioned here. I don’t know if it was the director’s decision or Bryce Howard herself, but it was ridiculous how they were going above and beyond to cover that she has gained some weight even though she still incredibly gorgeous

I wonder if someone's had such a dropoff after winning an Oscar, like I am sure this will make a lot of money but Chastain could not elevate the material here and had bad chemistry with her co-star Chris Pratt

Caught this yesterday. Second half of the movie was okay once they actually started doing dinosaur stuff, but for the most part this was a generic action adventure that completely mislead people with its advertising. I was deceived into thinking this would be a movie dealing predominantly with how a world is dealing with dinosaurs being a part of life, especially after the YouTube shorts and recent drive-in movie clip. Instead I got a Taken/James Bond imitation with dinosaurs stuck in the background .

Despite lackluster reviews, this pulled in about 60 million Friday when you include previews.
I still see a lot of regular people on socials saying it wasn’t very good.

Down to 31% on RT. However an 80% with the audience (6/10 on IMDb). However as I was lukewarm on JW1 and really disliked Fallen Kingdom, this is one I'll wait to watch on 4K UHD.

I haven't seen the movie yet, but I read the plot summary on wikipedia, and it sounds like this thing is more about locusts than dinosaurs.
What. The. Fuck?
I have long defended this franchise, saying the only thing it really needed was a passable script, some halfway decent acting, and dinosaurs chasing and eating people.
With the Jurassic World reboot, they had a perfect opportunity to make the franchise about dinosaurs being loosed on the modern world. Even the title Jurassic World implies that, and it was even foreshadowed back in the first movie by Ian Malcolm's speech.
So the franchise should transform into velociraptors hunting people through dark alleys, farmers dealing with herds of massive apatosauruses on their fields eating their crops, tyrannosaurus rexes and triceratopses battling through city streets, styracosauruses chasing cars, all kinds of shit like that.
But instead its about locusts and a cloned girls with some dinosaurs thrown into the mix?
I could enjoy the previous five films for what they were, but this seems like a colossal misstep.

The story I thought I was getting based on the trailers was limited to some news footage exposition at the start and end of the movie.
Other than a few scenes that drew some laughs, there were no audience reactions, and several lines that seemed intended as jokes fell flat.
No buzz as people were leaving either.

I don't have too much more to add that hasn't been already said. There were some good individual moments, but there was just way too much there. The story was so labored and needlessly complicated. There was a point where I wasn't quite sure about something and realized I didn't care.
I think it was at least better than the previous Jurassic World movie. I realized real quick that I must have suppressed that movie deep, deep down. I almost have zero recollection of it besides not liking it.
Overall, it's an incredibly disappointing finish. I actually liked the first Jurassic World movie. No, it wasn't the first Jurassic Park, but I thought it was good mindless fun and set up some good possibilities. And this is what we get.

Saw it today. Very poor. Jeff Sam and Laura saved it. Without them I wouldn’t have seen it.

I enjoyed it - certainly nothing new but it went down with me well enough. I'm loving juicy Bryce Dallas Howard too.

Why was Dodgson carrying around the Barbasol can like it had some value? When he gave it to Nedry in JP he said it would hold the embryos for something like 36 hours? Apparently, they should be explaining on Camp Cretaceous Season 5 how he even found the damn thing in all that mud.

Wow, this was terrible. A lot of times I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be aghast or laughing (I laughed). Highlight for me was the limited animatronics and the guy getting his hands stuck inside 2 dinosaurs like Homer Simpson.
Goldblum really holds this thing together and I hope Dern and Neil were paid well.
One thing I don't understand about nostalgia-fests like this: if you're catering to huge fans of Jurassic Park, why do you think they'd want the same things they already saw? I don't need a "dino in the side mirror" shot. I don't need a seatbelt gag (that isn't ever given focus, she just seems to have a little trouble?). The one but that was semi-funny was someone pointing to Goldblum to button his shirt, but even that's a little annoying when there are so many other callbacks.

Judging by the reaction I got when I brought up the same issue with Ghostbusters Afterlife, the answer to your question is that it is what the fans want. Or at the very least what they think they want.

Yeah, that seems to be the thing with sequels.
Ghostbusters Afterlife brought back the old villains from the first movie. The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy rehashed a bunch of story arcs from the Original Trilogy.
That's always been the thing with sequels, though. Look at all of the horror sequels from the 80s slasher movies that just bring back the killer to wipe out a bunch of new teenagers, or the James Bond movies from the 70s and 80s that all follow the same basic plot. I binged all of the Bond movies back-to-back several years ago, and was struck by just how same-y so many of them were.
Granted, though, there's only so much they can do with Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, or Friday the 13th sequels.
Really sort of wish we could move beyond that, but Hollywood just wants to play it safe.
When Jurassic World was announced, I was thinking it meant that the dinosaurs were loosed upon the world at large, but it just turned out to be another theme park.

I have to be honest, seeing Sam Neill ghost-walk through this thing without a whole lot to do (not his fault, the script's fault) made me worry that they'll do the same thing with Harrison Ford in next year's Indy movie.
Not surprised it had a strong opening weekend...but I suspect we'll see a close to record dropoff next weekend percentage wise.

I’m pretty much over the whole false nostalgia trend. It almost always winds up being disappointing.
There are a few exceptions (namely Spider-Man: No Way Home) where it’s handled well, but by and large it ends up being a source of frustration to see characters brought back and either wasted or to see them basically get shit on in some capacity.

A Facebook memory popped up today from 7 years ago. I posted my AMC ticket to the first JW movie. As a price comparison for a comparable ticket today was $2 more.

The one part I did like was the revelation about "the traitor" because I was like, if this isn't a trap or something then whoever scripted the dialogue just phoned it in. At least he was in on it.
All in all it's still kind of baffling to me the directions they take this franchise. Maybe it's budgetary. But I don't know how you perfectly set up a movie where dinosaurs roam the Earth once again, then go back to restricted it to a small, amusement park like area. I guess they just couldn't fit that kind of plotline in because they needed about an hour and a half if not more to just hit the nostalgia beats. And I think that's what kind of ruined the movie to me. I watched all five previous movies with my kids, who had never seen them before (and I actually had never seen the fifth film), so I refamiliarized myself with the characters, but the ads basically gave away the best parts, and then at some point in the movie you can just tell it's all a convoluted setup to get all these disparate characters together for fan service, and that the movie is not going to go out of it's way to reign in the predictability.
Like you know the rich guy is going to be evil and care only about profits, you know that his desire to play with dinosaurs is going to backfire, you know random people are going to get eaten by dinosaurs (but none of the main good guys), you know the good guys will have vehicles break down in the middle of dinosaur country so we get some cool scenes, you know the T rex is going to fight some other dinosaurs and save the good guys, you know you're going to have at least one instance of the kid running away, etc. etc. It's like the Tim Cook guy didn't watch any of the other movies.
But my son loved the dinosaur fights and seeing the mosasaur again, so there's that.

Better than the last one I guess. The first half or more of the movie just felt like Mission: Impossible with dinosaurs. Pratt and now Howard are made into untouchable action heroes. The part with the original cast was more interesting, and I was hoping we'd get more plot around the "real" dinosaurs that look more like birds vs the abominations created in the first film from hybrid DNA. I thought we were going to get some of that when Grant was talking to his students/interns before Ellie showed up. I felt like Malcolm was exactly how I'd expect him to be after being 100% correct about everything for the last 30 years.
Way too many locusts in this dinosaur movie.

Yeah, this movie is basically half Jurassic World and half weird Mission Impossible knock-off. Would classify it as dumb fun. I did enjoy it more than Fallen Kingdom at least, and the original cast was treated nicely.
