Well, I guess only 3 of us watched it Tuesday night. Now that it's Thursday night and it's officially premiering, hope we will see some more thoughts from you all.

Right now it's at 97% on RT with a 99% audience score.

BTW, I saw on Ebay people were selling the posters and pins from Tuesday. One person was selling the combo for $25. And a few were trying to sell the pin for $10.

They were strict about the poster/pin set giving it out in allotment to tickets purchased. I had two tickets, so they gave us one of each. I also had to show my e-ticket from the app to prove it. It was actually very ordered since it was playing in the two biggest screens - IMAX and Dolby CInema. I'm not sure what the deal is with the NFT, because they just had their investor screening last night.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick (Kosinski, 2022) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I just got back from seeing this. I wasn't a huge fan of the first movie. I mean, I liked it, but never got obsessed with it the way people did back in the 80's when it was released. I enjoyed this one a lot more as it had more character development. I thought Miles Teller did a great job as Goose's son. Always love Jennifer Connelly and had no clue she had a connection to the first movie, either. I was disappointed that Meg Ryan's character died in between movies and didn't really like seeing Iceman go, either. No mention of Kelly McGillis's character, but didn't really need one. I went and saw it with the same friend I was the original with and he enjoyed it, too. Lots of nostalgia, but also lots of new things as well.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick (Kosinski, 2022) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

I just caught an early matinee of this and it REALLY delivered.

Hard to believe that it has almost been 4 years since this was originally supposed to be released, but it was well worth the wait.
Very refreshing to go to a movie that doesn't have to rely on CGI for a majority of the effects.

Kept waiting for someone to die, but glad they didn't go that route this time.

The opening scene, with the original music = PERFECT.

Couple of things I would love to know.
1. Did Kilmer actually speak those lines? Or were they dubbed in?
2. Did Cruise actually do any of his own flying?

Hoping to catch it on Dolby Cinema next week.

Yeah if Kilmer was actually able to speak those lines, that's pretty amazing. When he was speaking on his Amazon documentary and when he appeared at the Heat Paley Fest from a few years ago, he could barely speak.

Breathtaking. Wow. That's how to do a summer blockbuster right. Just an all around great time. More heart, soul, humor and more action than its' predecessor. Such incredible shots and amazing vistas to behold. Perfect love letter to the old, while making it fresh and creative for the new. Loved all the callbacks. Kilmer's cameo was perfect. Just perfect. Everything just gelled so well. It's amazing what imagination can do to refine and refurbish an original formula. It stayed true, but revamped and made it fresh.

I'm pretty sure Kilmer spoke his dialogue - but they could have cleaned it up in post-production as well.

This film was GREAT. So nice to see a big-budget tentpole film that doesn't look like I'm watching a videogame. The CGI that was used here was subtle and well-done. The practical effects were Oscar-worthy.

Loved they kept original Faltermeyer score (especially opening) and added Hans Zimmer. That coupled with Lady Gaga’s song (which I’ve been playing everyday, several times) makes for a great soundtrack. But, the sound effects are the true stars. I mean this movie was booming. Wouldn’t be surprised if nominated.

Re: Top Gun: Maverick (Kosinski, 2022) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Just got back from a nearly packed 12:30 IMAX showing - lived up to the hype!! 4.5 for me. I was surprised they basically just recreated the opening, but it was cool. I was right about who's funeral it was from the trailers, and what a great scene with Kilmer.

This is such a strong film on it's own, the nostalgia is just the icing on the cake...it leans into it, but it's not out of necessity.

I was a little disappointed the whole film wasn't in IMAX, I just assumed it was going to be. But that's really all I got for negatives.

If Everything Everywhere All At Once points towards the future and shows you something you’ve never seen before, Top Gun Maverick brings to you everything you’ve been missing from Hollywood. It felt like going to the opening of a big summer movie in the 90s. Yes, the Marvel and Star Wars movies had more hype but it was never for everyone. This is.

Try and see it on the biggest screen you can. It’s great!

Re: Top Gun: Maverick (Kosinski, 2022) — The Spoiler Filled Reviews Thread

Just got back from seeing it a 2nd time in Dolby Cinema. Loved it even more. The Dolby audio is just outstanding. The seats rattled during all the amazing flight sequences, especially the opening with Kenny Loggins Danger Zone.

I don't have much more to add from my initial post from Tuesday. This was probably the best theater-going experiences since Spider-Man No Way Home last Christmas.

And yes I agree this felt like a summer blockbuster from the 1990s and that's a compliment. This lives up to the hype. One of Tom Cruise's best IMO.

.
I want to see this in Dolby as well...just to confirm, is the aspect ratio cropped to 2:35 for the whole movie? Or does it open up for the IMAX scenes? No brainer if it does, Dolby for sure.

The aspect ratio thing I cannot answer. I don't know. I guess you'll have to find out for yourself when you see it again in Dolby.

Dug it. The action scenes were fantastic. The Kilmer scene was well handled

5 stars. Adored it. THIS is how you bring a franchise back.

They hit all the right notes, had the perfect amount of nostalgia without being a retread and paid homage to the first movie but improved on almost every single thing (the only thing is the original is funnier - there isn’t a “Goose” character to deliver those lines in this one).

Everything was intentional. For example, they recreate the volleyball scene but it actually has a point. The movie is filled with stuff like this.

The Goose and Iceman stuff was handled so well. I teared up several times.

After being so disappointed in Ghostbusters: Afterlife I thought this was going to be more of the same - a nostalgia-fest that drops the best parts of the original. The last 30+ minutes of Maverick had some of the craziest and most thrilling stuff I’ve EVER seen in a movie. I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Technically, it's been 3 years: "Top Gun: Maverick" was originally scheduled to be released by Paramount Pictures on July 12, 2019, but was delayed toJune 26, 2020, in order to shoot several complex action sequences.

I guess I was thinking back to the Summer of 2018 when I think it was announced it would be out 2019.
Either way, it was a LONG time and well worth it.

Saw this on the largest legit IMAX screen in the area on Thursday afternoon and had a great time. Great flying, it also enjoyed the quiet moments, especially involving Iceman.

It has actually been 4 years since the last Tom Cruise film. Fallout was July 26, 2018.

Did you all have a little video thank you message by Tom Cruise before your showing? I thought that was nice.
