I like it in March. Gives me a chance to see all the Best Picture nominees at home.

So the shows is not on in the afternoon on the West with the sun out for almost 2 and 1/2 hrs of the show which is fucking weird and the ratings will drop even lower than they already are.

It starts at 5PM regardless of the sunís position in the sky. Thatís true of almost all prime time live events, they start at 8E/5P. It would be daylight regardless of DST.

But one of the rare shows that is held in Winter and nobody will take time out of their day when the sun is out to see who won the award for best sound editing.

Looks like streaming movies will no longer qualify for the next Academy Awards. It has to play in theaters.

I guess I didnít realize that was a rule change in the past year or two. Which is why I assumed The Irishman, Roma, etc. had brief theatrical runs.

Then I say everyone voting has to see it in theaters. Then maybe we'll get some BP nominees that the public has actually seen too.

Re: The 94th Academy Awards --> 2022 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

Made sense to lift the rule for COVID, and to go back now theatres are running.

I'm confused about what these rules for the Sound category means:

  • In the Sound category, producers will be required to make their films available for viewing by Sound Branch members, particularly when the release date is after the preliminary voting cycle opens. Any special circumstances requests regarding eligible nominees must be received by the General Entry deadline of November 15, 2022. Additionally, clips for the nominating screening (bake-off) shall not exceed 10 minutes of running time per title.
Bake-off? Does that mean the nominating committee makes the nominations based on a bunch of 10 minute clips, not the entire movie?

Re: The 94th Academy Awards --> 2022 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

These are the kinds of stories that make me not give a shit about the Academy Awards. A lot of these people are voting for movies they half-watched at home while scrolling Instagram, if they watched them at all.

Why does anyone care about this anymore?
