And Apple is milking it hard, when you log on to the service. Netflix was trying for years, but Power of the Dog was the first one that actually had a chance. Even Mank and especially Roma were long shots.

Roma was the betting Favorite.

Obviously I did remember that wrong. I had forgotten it won PGA, DGA and BAFTAs.

Im ok if people dont care for CODA or think it was an undeserving winner. Id just like more people to see it (eg, all the people in this thread who said they saw every other BP nominee ), and the BP will do that.

I still like Green Book, but it's not best picture worthy.

Will Smith is a charismatic personality. In no way is he an actor.

Maybe Spike Lee got screwed again when Green Book beat blacKKKlansman in 2019

Maybe A Star was Born was better than Green Book?

A Star is Born was shit. Bradley and Gagas Oscar duet was better than the whole movie.

I felt BlacKkKlansman was overrated and Lee might as well have made the entire thing fictional if he was going to change events so much. I would have gone with Roma or The Favourite.

Re: The 94th Academy Awards --> 2022 Oscar Awards Show Discussion

Been a week, but I'm still pissed about the "canceling" of Van Morrison. "Down To Joy" from Belfast was nominated for Best Song. Van was invited to perform, but was touring in Europe and declined. Instead of having someone else perform the song, they ignored it, and substituted "We Don't Talk About Hugo" which wasn't nominated, and wasn't even submitted. Anyway, it's a great song, and here it is:

1) If he was invited to perform, he wasn't "cancelled".
2) We Don't Talk About BRUNO

It's not that unusual to not perform all the songs any more. Last year, none were performed during the telecast and I found that disappointing. Yeah the We Don't Talk About Bruno performance was weird in a number of ways (it wasn't nominated, it was performed very late in the telecast while apparently being targeted to little kids and promoted at every TV break, obviously the weird Megan Thee Stallion rap interlude). I have no idea what the thinking was there except that it's a huge hit now and the Oscars were televised on a Disney-owned network. I would have rather seen at least one of Dune's six Oscar wins given live on the telecast than seen whatever the hell Bruno was there, but nobody asked me.

I think the reason is as simple as that.

If you don't have kids, it might be hard to understand just how popular We Don't Talk About Bruno is. It was the right choice to feature the song, but they bungled the execution in just about every conceivable way.

Down To Joy
By far the best of the Oscar nominated songs - not even close. The other songs were garbage.

Because she frowned at a joke about her, or because her husband made an ass of himself?Shes not my favorite but no reason to ban her.
