"When Rock hosted in 2016 and Pinkett-Smith was boycotting the event over the “Oscars So White” controversy, Rock joked at the event, “Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”"

2:48 Rock goes in on Jada and Will a little later.

That's a great idea. You should have been one of the Oscar producers. I was disappointed they didn't have a clip of Jackson getting his honorary award.

Been texting with a few friends about the awards. And not just about Smith. One sent me this that was posted on Instagram.

I fell asleep and slept through the whole thing. Apparently I didn’t miss much.

I saw Coda last night and thought it was a just OK movie, just an average “feel good” movie. A lot better movies this year.

The academy released this tweet:

“The Academy does not condone violence of any form. Tonight we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Awards winners, who deserve this moment of recognition from their peers and movie lovers around the world,”

By not condoning I guess that means you're still allowed to be there, get an award, and a standing ovation.

Actually if I was one of the producers I would have been asking why Travolta has to keep showing up on stage.

Should seriously take the award back. Literally a violation of their conduct code. What kind of message does this send to kids, crazy people, basically everyone. "If someone onstage or anywhere says some lame words you don't like .. it's okay to assault them." Not only zero consequences but you still get rewarded.

Will Smith will let you sleep with his wife but not talk about her lack of hair.

Rock made the joke, and he took the hit. He stood there and said." OK, let's move on." Good enough for me.

Starting to think Will Smith slapping Rock was the second most embarrassing moment of the night for him.

That acceptance speech was beyond awful and cringeworthy. Holy shit!!

Well, apparently they absolutely do condone it or else they would've ejected Smith from the building and certainly not allowed him to win an award.

This all sounds/looks staged. A ploy to get more viewers. And if not the case, then it was a dumb idea. I skipped the Oscars again and been doing so since 2003.

Comedians get slapped, punched, knocked out many times during their comedy performances. This is not shocking at all. Chris Rock always been a comedian that pushed the envelope.

Will Smith and Vulture Pinkett have a cringeworthy relationship.

I don't think anyone comes out of this looking good.

The joke about Jada was in poor taste and was very mean spirited. As a husband I would have been enraged myself.

However, I wouldn't have gone onstage and hit him. Most people wouldn't have.

I just would have decked his ass later, privately.

What Rock said had to hurt Jada, so, regardless of what you think of her or Will or their relationship, that comment was WAY out of line. I totally understand Will Smith wanting to do something about it. He just did it the wrong way. As wrong as it could have been done.

If it was staged, what is the upside for Will Smith?

Yeah WILL SMITH slapping Chris Rock at the fucking Oscars isn't shocking at all and totally the same as some drunk idiot attacking a comedian at a comedy club.

Also people saying this was staged: just no.

If you see the video that shows Smith's reaction to Rock's reaction after the slap that sure doesn't look or sound staged. Granted, he's an actor, but he genuinely looks and sounds pissed. Like he's trying to keep his cool, but can't. And he drops an F Bomb or two, too.

I don't think it was staged.

He mocked her over a medical condition that has caused hair loss.

That's a horrible thing for a woman, especially a celebrity, to have to deal with. She's already sensitive to it, and then Rock mocks her for it? In front of an audience of MILLIONS of people? Not cool. That had to be traumatic for her.

That's after Chris Rock talked shit about both Jada and Will when he hosted the Oscars in 2016.

Plot twist though. What if Will, realizing that this could be career suicide, tosses a blank check Rock's way for him to go along with the "it was a skit" line. Can just say it was an Andy Kaufman-esque inspired ruse.

I actually thought about that possibility. With Smith in the Lawler role.

It's unlikely, but you never know. Money talks...

Didn't watch but am catching up on all of this now. (gotta watch Coda!) By CA law, doesn't a person have to be taken into custody even if no charges are filed? (this just happened to a Seahawk a few months ago)

The elites will always come out fine, Smith's career will go on as if nothing happened.(but the excuses being made for him are just nauseating) Words can be ugly but they aren't violence.
